Anyone have one they love and would recommend?  TIA!

Re: Saint Mary's OB-GYN?

  • Are you open to going to a family doctor as your OB?GYN?

I had an emergency C-section and a doctor from the East Beltline OB/GYN  office had to do it. She wasn't all that personable. There is a male doctor in that pratice is an total azzhold.  He delivered my friend's stillborn baby and was making comments about how it was a nice day to play golf. However, I don't even see that office on the Advantage Health website.

I loved my family doctor so much, that I went to her the first 2/3s of my 2nd pregnancy and then transfered to the downtown OBGYN. Dr. Avery was my doctor and she seemed pretty nice. I also saw Dr. Leehy (sp?) once or twice and she seemed nice. It is hard to say because I was only there for a short amount of time. I wasn't happy with the doctor that did my 2nd c-section but I don't see her name on the list anymore.

Dr. Burns is an older doctor and doesn't deliver. I think he is very old school. He did my post-partum check up and was very quick, didn't ask how I was doing emtionally. I think that is unaccetable for a OB not to address PP depression.  It looks like they must have made some changes in that office, but I thought I saw a Dr. Hicks or Hickman in the hospital and he seemed really nice.

  • Ok, looks like the OB office in the East Beltline office is part of St. Mary's and not Advantage Health

Ugh that all sounds horrible!  :(  Sorry MB.

I had a great experience with all the doctor's at my OB/GYN practice (and I heard they just got a new one) but I'm in Muskegon so that is no help.  But I loved my doctor from start to finish - she was so compassionate, I would highly recommend her.

  • I have the same family physician that a gvsu... has, and she performed OB duties.  I don't think she's seeing new patients, or gvsu and I would tell you to see her in an instant.

I did have some issues both in and out of pregnancy that I needed to see a full OB/GYN for, and saw Dr. Gorsuch who is with the practice linked above.  He is awesome!  Explained everything that was happening, drew diagrams when necessary, and very personable.

  • I see a family physician in the same practice as GVSU and GRSweetpeas.  He is family medicine w/ OB.  He normally acts as my gyn.

Once he sent me to the practiced linked above when we thought I should seek some additional answers and I saw Dr Gorsuch.  He had great bedside manner and was very thorough.   Sweetpea is right he loved to draw diagrams.  (I will continue to keep my family dr as my ob/gyn however.)

  • I go to the Jenison office of Advantage Health and my family doctor is also an OBGYN doctor (and he actually prefers that over family medicine).  Anyway, a lot of the doctors at that office are really nice.  His name is Dr. Gregory VanWienen, and I highly reccommend him :)
