Re: middle school teachers
I'm a total lurker, but one thing that I am doing this year is using a multi-pocket expandable folder, one pocket for each class period. I just put the assignments in the folder, and it's organized and ready to go. I labeled it "To Grade" and keep all my grading utensils in it. I found it at Target for $1.
I also have specific pens that I use for grading, and I only use them for grading. That helps my kids id exactly where my comments are on their assignments since it's always the same red ink.
Hopefully that helps you some...I teach 8th grade, btw
I have created an excel spreadsheet for each of my classes that keeps track of their marks each term. I also teach grades 7 and 8! I have a homework bin for each class and I also have a bucket with hanging file folders labelled for each student. Any missed handouts or assignments that are handed back go in there if they are absent.
I love the multi-pocket file system idea that was posted. What an easy way to take marking home! I'll have to do that this year. I usually end up bringing it home in an awkward bucket or it's put into my bag and gets dog-eared.
