This morning I found out via an FB post from my brother that my Dad was taken to the ER last night. (Just love finding out that way, btw.) He was having a really bad coughing fit and starting having pain under his ribs. The last update I got was that they are waiting for the pulmonary specialist and a room for him to be admitted.
The backstory is that my dad has had a bad cough that has only gotten worse for over a year, maybe even 2 or more yrs. He's only recently agreed to see a pulmonary specialist to figure out what's going on. Meanwhile, he has been diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver. There is no cure other than a transplant. Unfortunately, the doctors will not put him on the transfer list because of his history of not taking medication as prescribed. He's lost 50 lbs since the beginning of the year, and he is not a real big guy. Mom said he looks anorexic - skin and bones. He has a large, swollen abdomen because of fluid in his stomach cavity from the cirrhosis. It needs to be drained, but they can't drain it until his coughing is under control - yet the fluid is probably causing some of the coughing, so it's a huge catch-22. Or at least, this is the information I have from my Mom.
So please keep my Dad and my family in your thoughts today. I'm on pins & needles waiting for updates.

I'm sorry. That sucks! I think you need to let your parents know that this situation is a need-to-know type and they should have called you!!
Call me Kat =^..^=
I got a call from Mom. At that time, they were taking him to get x-rays to see about some fluid around his lungs. Based on the findings, they will either remove the fluid in the room or they will have to do surgery.
She said she was very tired, but was going to stay to find out the results and if he has to have surgery, etc. I told her to call one of my brothers (specifically, the one who posted it on FB that is mooching off of them and is just sitting at the house GRRR) to come relieve her so she can get some rest. I also asked her to call me with updates and let me know if I needed to come down.
I just got the update that they were able to do the less-invasive procedure and got 1.5 liters off of his lungs. They are going to test the fluid and do another x-ray later to see if there is more to take off.
Mom was headed home to get some more stuff for Dad and then going back. She has to get up super-early to go to dialysis tomorrow too.
I am sorry you are going through this with your Mom and now your Dad, I hope the fluid subsides and is able to be taken care of. Sending you thoughts and prayers.
