I am about to clobber this lawyer

I told him before the conference call that I will mute my speakerphone to reduce feedback and echo that results when multiple people are on the phone at one time. So he keeps going, "Punky, you still with us?"

No, you imbecile, I'm just snoozing over here, not paying attention.

So I get back on the phone and say, "Hi, yes, I am still here!" and he says, "I don't know if you were listening but we were just talking about xyz"

REALLY? Seriously? I am in charge of this call, of course I am effen listening, you moron.

I want to slap him. I may have to say something to him 1:1 about not doing this in front of our employees.

Re: I am about to clobber this lawyer

  • You should absolutely say something to him.  Is he unused to conference calls?  That seems like very odd call etiquette.  Why would being on mute mean you're not listening?  Does he expect to hear your heavy breathing or random "uh huh"s throughout the call?
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • How strange.  I always muted conference calls until it was my time to speak.
