ETA: another question...Dog question

ETA: vet need a stool sample as he couldn't get one while we were there...a) he told me no food for Abby until the morning...so is there some miraculous way to get one from her?! b) does it need to be 'fresh' (sorry, gross!)...I mean, if she poos tonight, can I take that in the morning? I completely forgot to ask these questions at the vet...

My boxer, Abby got sick yesterday morning when we let her outside (she was whining in her crate which she never does) and then when I got home from work yesterday she had gotten sick all in her crate and even had thrown up some out of the crate. This morning she started whining again but I slept through it...when I got up same thing...mess everywhere. What would you do? Take her to the vet or try some home remedies? Thanks ladies!

Re: ETA: another question...Dog question

  • At this point, it's been 24 hours, so I'd take her to the vet. She may need some IV fluids to rehydrate as well as be checked out to see if there's anything specific causing her symptoms.

  • I would probably head to the vet since it has been 24 hours and she is still having tummy issues.  If you can not get her to a vet right away I would boil a chicken breast, add in some rice and give her some clear Pedialyte (or however you spell it).  A bland diet may help settle her tummy.  I too would worry about dehydration and/or a blockage, especially if she has not pooped.

GL!  I hope Abby feels better soon.

  • Since it's been 24 hours and she isn't feeling better I would go ahead and go to the vet. I would be worried about a blockage and she may need to be hydrated with fluids. I took my little beagle girl in last week for the same thing just not as bad and she was running a fever so they gave her a shot and antibiotic and she was better within 48 hours!

Please let us know what they say, and I hope she starts feeling better soon!

  • Aww, I hope she starts feeling better soon!

Agree with everyone else--sounds like she needs to go to the vet. But please keep us updated on how she's doing!
