Should I?
Mike has to go to DC on my birthday for a meeting. We have enough skymiles (I think) for me to tag along, and it would be fun to have a nice dinner that evening, then shop and poke around the city on my own for the day while he works.
But...I'm feeling (probably irrational) nervousness about being that far away from the kids. I've never been more than two hours away by car from Maggie and Owen has his first overnight away from us this weekend. Plus I'd have to take my pump and do all that business while we were gone and call me lazy, but that sounds kind of awful to have to worry about keeping the milk cold etc. and there's no way I'd toss it. Blergh.
That leaves me to kind of want to save the miles for another trip-I know he'll have to go out to DC several more times in the next year so maybe I wait until he goes again and I won't have to be as chained to the pump. It is my birthday though, and it would be nice to get away for 24 hours.
Ready to rumble.

I'd go if it was me, but if you think you will better enjoy the trip later than you know you have the option.
Would it just be one night? Would your room have a fridge for milk storing?
Saving the miles for another trip does not compute.

You can even pump simultaneously if need be. I'll look away tactfully and promise not to say loudly to those around me, "Does anyone else hear that squelching noise?"

I don't really know anything about these things, but a whole day's worth of milk seems like it'd be a lot to most of the moms on here. When Winged spilled 5oz last week, most responses were that there would be tears. But I don't understand the intricacies of breast feeding. I DO have fond memories of standing in my closet and talking to Noisy while she pumped, though!
Husbands should be like Kleenex: Soft, strong, and disposable.
How often will you have to pump? I have traveled for work multiple times, and while it's annoying, it is totally doable. I just get a fridge for my hotel room and then check the milk on the way home. I keep the bags in an insulated pyrex dish cover and put 3 of the ice packs in there with it.
ETA: I would totally go, and there is no way I would pump and dump.
Yeah, I can be like Mod's coworker who pumped in a meeting! We'd have to sit near an outlet though.
OK, I'm going to see about making this happen. The trip will allow me to feed my new interest in Zara clothing. And hopefully admire Tummy's tummy.
For people who produce excess milk, it is not a big deal. I barely pump enough for my daughter to have milk for the next day. Every ounce is a big deal to me. She eats 30oz a day and that is exactly what I pump. I have nothing stored.
It wouldn't be for me, but some people struggle with supply issues and have to work hard to make enough. I can understand not wanting to dump a whole day's worth if pumping an extra 2oz is an effort.
I have about a week's worth in the freezer just in case I ever get sick or am unable to feed him for a few days.
I think this is a great idea. DC in the fall is perfect, not as many crazy tourists and not swelteringly hot. The Zara downtown is a great place to stop, and for HT--I hear they are starting to carry the maternity line.
