I am so overwhelmed right now it's crazy. It's "good stress" for the most part (I guess). It's work and school so at least it's not monetary or with my relationship but I'm still so overwhelmed. In addition to this (or because of?) I've started gaining weight. I feel like an obvious solution is to stop by the gym on my way home. Exercise the stress out, burn off some calories, so obvious, right? The problem is that by the end of the day I'm either so tired or so focused on getting home and working on whatever else that I have to do I feel like I can't. I'm really not exaggerating when I say that I get home, change, start working until I cook dinner, eat and go to bed (of course, now I'm here
)
So, how do you stay motivated? Or, what do you do to relieve stress? I guess I just need a kick in the butt. Any wonderful, Nestie advice?
Re: Do you have any advice?
Wanna join the Georgetown rec center and work out with me?
I need the motivation, too. In fact, I'm going to force myself to close up the laptop and go to the gym after I hit "post". My motivation is nearly non-existent. I went yesterday for the first time in weeks. It feels good, but then when I get home the next day from work, I'm exhausted. I'm trying to use my dog as motivation (since I take him for a short run when I get home from the gym). You would think the clothes that don't fit would motivate me. Nope, not a bit.
I think the key is to take it step by step. Take your gym clothes to work with you as the first step. That should hopefully be incentive to put them on. From there, you may as well go to the gym! After about 3 weeks, or so I'm told, you'll get into the routine more naturally.

If Georgetown weren't the opposite direction from me, then that would be great! I think I will take your advice. Tonight, before I go to bed I will pack a gym back and set it by the door. If I do that, I'll have no excuse.
Thanks and good luck to you, too!
I read. You sound really busy though. I went to a health seminar a year ago about how you usually gain/keep on weight when you're stressed because you aren't sleeping well enough. Between the ages of 18-30 you still need a full 8 hours of sleep to properly be healthy. 30-45 closer to 7, and then only about 5 or 6 after that. Most people are busy up until the point they try to go to bed. That means your body and mind have to take a lot of time to wind down to sleep.
I'm usually in bed by 8:30, no joke, and then read for 30-45 minutes, and then go straight to sleep, out like a light. It's helped soooo much with stress.
And when that doesn't help, muscle relaxers and wine is fantastic!
Also, are you eating enough? When I'm stressed, I forget to eat (wierd I know). I end up gaining weight sometimes b/c of this. I'd worry most about making sure you've got easy/quick healthy foods available to you and make sure you're getting your calories!
Also - maybe you can make food on the weekends, so you dont have to cook as much during the week? That would free up some time for the gym. Like PP mentioned, it definitely helps to pack the bag, and go while you're out!
ditto cooking on weekends so you have more time during the week.
also, can you go on a few 5-10 min walks during the day? this might be more feasible when it's not 11 billion degrees outside.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I'll do another post asking about things to cook on the weekends so I don't have to during the week. The others were great, too. I haven't really thought about a lack of calories but that could be a factor. I'm so busy during the week that I hardly do have time to eat.
I took my gym my today and stopped on my way home. I'm glad that I did and I'm going to try to keep it up at least 3 days a week.
