Speaking of travel, when you get a chance, could you give me your packing tips?  I know we've talked about this before, but I could use some reminders.

I'm trying to figure out how to pack for Arizona without taking my entire closet (and bathroom).  We're going to need to pack a range of clothes (layers) because we'll be all over the state and the daytime highs will range from 60 degrees to 95 degrees.  Clothing will need to range from a lot of hiking apparal to dinner clothes.  I also have a problem with trying to keep shoes and personal care products within reason when packing.

Any tips would be appreciated!  Thanks!

    This is really timely. My packing for the cruise was awesome, if I do say so myself. :P. For clothes: Pack pieces you love and that fit well. Layering will be your friend with the temperature changes. Bring tops that will work alone for the 90s and that you could wear a cardigan or jacket over for the 60s. Plan to rewear at least two bottoms with a different top. Wear your bulkiest items on the plane. Bring no more than three shoes (a dress pair, an athletic pair, and a casual pair). For a shoe fiend like me, that is always my biggest challenge! As for personal care, leave your blow dryer at home. Pack liquids into travel size containers that will fit nicely into a quart sized bag. Meijer sells a bag full of small containers with labels that works great. If you have a lot of makeup, pair it down to the essentials that you are most likely to use rather than bringing everything along.     Thank you!  That is very helpful.  This reminds me that I should purchase a nice, all-purpose cardigan.

    I thought I remembered talking to you about this after your Christmas trip and you mentioned something about carry-on packing that I thought was brilliant.  Like, you put shoes in a big purse or something?  That's not it, but do you know what I'm talking about?  I remember at the time thinking it was a great idea, but now I don't remember what it was!

    I think you might be thinking of how I pack my purse into my main suitcase so that my 2nd carryon is a luggage piece that carries toiletry items as well as reading material and travel documents.

    Yes, that was what I was thinking of!  So, for carry-ons, I could have one suitcase, plus a large tote.  And then my husband could have the camera bag, plus a suitcase.

    Hmmm... there's a chance we could make this work without checking bags.  Hmm

    You are correct about allowances. Basically you are allowed one thing in the overhead and one thing under the seat in front of you. Good luck carrying on! It makes travel so much easier to not have to wait for bags.
