How much on a daily basis?

I would love to hear how much others do daily

Almost anytime spent home I feel as if something  needs to be cleaned or put away, Will it ever end ?

I tried to ask a frind IRL but she has a cleaning service, that didn't answer my question.

 thanks!

Re: How much on a daily basis?

  • I feel the same way.  There is always something I could be doing.  I try to get a few things done each night to keep it under control, but if I am tired and feel like taking a night off, I do.

Every day I make sure I empty the dish drying rack, then clean all of the dishes from dinner and anything else that is lying around.  I wipe down the kitchen countertops and organize the mail, or at least put it in a pile to be opened the next day if I can see that it is junk mail or a statement that doesn't need to be dealt with immediately.

In addition to this, I try to get one more thing done.  Some nights it is laundry, some nights I clean the bathroom, some nights I sweep the floors.  At the beginning of the week I usually make a list of everything I want to get done, and then make a list of goals for each night.  It keeps me on track and I love crossing things out when they're done.

I also set myself a deadline, so that I will stop at 10pm and unwind for a half hour before it's time to go to bed.  Unless I have guests coming over, it will be okay if I let unfinished tasks slide to the next day.

  • There's always stuff I COULD be doing, but I usually don't do it. I tend to leave my cleaning for the weekends. The extent of my daily cleaning is usually emptying/loading the dishwasher, wiping down counters and picking up the random fur balls that my dog throws off.

  • I try to clean about a 1/2 hour a day. Enough time to do one deep cleaning task, take care of a load of laundry and do some spot cleaning.

I also make sure everything has a place, cut the clutter and pickup as I go (doesn't seem so bad then). This has helped me more than anything in the clean department. I also streamlined my cleaning products to multi-purpose one. I can spray and swipe anything in a matter seconds and no searching for what I need.

There's always something I could be doing and my house is usually pretty picked up and clean but life is too short to stay home and scrub the bathtub and get the corners of the floor everyday!

Yep, this. Except instead of dog fur balls I do a quick swipe over the flooring with a microfiber broom to pick up the stray cat hair and litter. I do the actual cleaning on the weekends. My house is small so it only takes DH and I about 30 minutes to get it all done.

  • Thanks to all that replied. I always feel like I need to hear it from someone else  :) I'm taking a break tonight!
  • I feel the sameway too! There are a few things I do everyday and others that I do weekly or if we have company coming over.  I clean the kitchen (put away dishes, load the dishwasher, wipe counters, etc) and straighten the living room everyday.  I sweep every few days because we haven't landscaped yet and our front and back yards are still mostly dirt, but I only mop once a week.  Most of the time I clean on the nights when H is at work.

Mainly the only rooms I try and keep clean everyday are the kitchen, guest bathroom, and living room.  That seems to be pretty easy.  The other rooms can wait til I have more time.

  • I try to do a little each night, except Mondays and Wednesdays.  I have class those nights and don't get home until around 9:30.  I used to try to get some cleaning done on those nights, but I was always exhausted after working all day and going to class.  DH helps out here and there.  He encourages me to do a little at a time rather than everything at once.

Daily: Mail, dishes, dirty laundry to the basement (at least into a hamper)

Last night I did the 20 minute timer trick and made myself do a little more than normal.

I changed my mind and may try this. I may work better under pressure.

  • Little different for me bc I am a SAHM.

I try to keep the dishes done and things in their place on a daily basis (ie, toys put away, junk mail into the trash, etc).

I usually save the weekly cleaning (vac, mop, bathrooms) for one day and the laundry for another day.  If I do a little every day then I constantly feel like I am cleaning.  It works better to just do it all at once and get it over with.

  • Recently, since my husband is helping coach his son's football team he is gone till 8pm at night 3 nights a week.  Before, I saved it for the weekends.

So this past week, I have been cranking the music and cleaning.  It has made it much more enjoyable.  I try to do one load of laundry a night.

A little break is always good!
  • Well to unload and load the dishwasher probably takes 20 min by itself or more. Then some tiddying up everyday. I don't usually "clean" during the week.

This sounds just like me. Exactly.
