Do you like her nurse? How important is it to you that you like the nurse?
We see Dr. Key and I like her fine. I don't LOVE her, but I don't dislike her. But her nurse is another story. I just don't feel like she's friendly at.all. She never smiles, never talks, just not my favorite person. I always ask to have baby girl weighed because I'm BFing and I'm paranoid about her weight gain and the nurse always acts so put out and frustrated that I asked. But I have another friend who sees Key and she says the nurse is just fine with them. Just wanted to see if my experience was an isolated case or not.
Is it a big deal that I don't like her? I mean, she is the one who sticks my child with needles, so she plays an important part. Should I consider switching pedis? I've thought about it many times, but just haven't done any more research to justify switching. Any recs for different ones? Thoughts from experienced mommies???
Re: If you see Dr. Key at NW Pedi...
Sandy? I like Sandy. She's always friendly to DS. Not OVERLY friendly, but it assures me she's not being fake.
She always weighs DS at his appointments, are you going in other than the well care appointments? How many visits have you had? It seems like since DS is almost 2 (and we've had more appointments) she's warmed up to us. She does seem friendlier now than when we first met her, but probably because she knows us better now.
I feel the same way about Dr. Key.... at first she was just "eh" to me (all my cousins use her and LOVE her which is why I started going there). As time has gone by, I've liked her more and more. She always spends a lot of time with us, doesn't make me feel rushed and answers my questions thoroughly without making me feel stupid.
All that said - some people just don't mesh. If you don't feel comfortable going to either of them then you should probably find another pedi.
Yes, we've been in several times in the last few months, as DD has been sick a lot. She's on her 2nd ear infection in a month. But the last 2 times we went in I asked to be weighed because one of my concerns was that DD hadn't been eating well and both times Sandy acted like it was really going to put her out to put DD on the scale. The first time I asked, she didn't do it. Monday, however, she did, after throwing a slight fit.
I'd switch. If you don't mesh with her and she isn't willing to take two minutes to weigh your child at the doctor appt. you're paying for, you need to see someone else. There are so many things to worry about with a child, and worrying whether the nurse is going to be decent to you or not isn't something I'd keep on my list!
