This seems really strange to me but I thought I would put this out here to see what others think...
I interviewed for a position at another company and was asked back for a second interview. The day before the second interview, I received a call from my recruiter that an internal candidate had posted for the position and they were going to give it to him. The hiring manager left me a voice mail message that they were very sorry, and had this person not posted for it the job very well could have been mine. That was last week.
I had sent this hiring manager a thank you e-mail when I was going through the interview process, so he had my direct contact information. Yesterday he e-mailed me to say that they had another position open (which I think would have reported to me had I gotten this job), and did I know anyone that would be a good fit? The job is definitely not something I would be suited for, so I don't think he was fishing to see if I would be interested in it. Instead, I think he was fishing for candidates because our company has been acquired an he knows a lot of people are losing their jobs.
I replied with a polite response saying I could not think of anyone who would be a good fit but that I would let him know if anyone did come to mind, but I was thinking that's pretty gutsy to turn me down for a job and then try to get me to help recruit for him a week later.
What do you think? Is this okay to do or would you feel a little strange about it too?
Re: Hiring Mgr from job I did not get is asking me for candidates for other positions
I think it is a bit gutsy and unprofessional. Sounds as though the 2 of you had no professional relationship prior to you applying for employment. I would have also told him I had no one in mind. It makes me wonder if this is the kind of crap a future employee may have to deal with.
Although if you do know someone who might want the job, I'd personally tell them and let them know about the "wierdness" surrounding the situation. They can make the personal decision about applying to the company.
I completely agree with this.
