Poll: Marriage Licenses

Just because I'm curious and was looking at different state's licenses earlier...

What state did you marry in?

Does your license have both maiden and married names listed?

Who had to sign you license (besides your officiant and government people)?

What does it look like (PIP if you want!)?

Any other special things with your license?

Re: Poll: Marriage Licenses

  • What state did you marry in? MODoes your license have both maiden and married names listed? No, only maiden nameWho had to sign you license (besides your officiant and government people)? The witnesses (BM, MOH) were the only ones who had to sign it besides the officiant. What does it look like (PIP if you want!)? It's actually quite pretty compared to some I've seen: imageAny other special things with your license? Ours also came with a "keepsake" license that is an unofficial document that is a little more fancy than the official one. I don't have a pic of it.ETA: The one above is the one we sent back -- the official copy is a photocopy of it with a seal on it.
  • Married in Alberta, a Canadian Province.

I think it just had maiden names on it, but I don't really remember.

Signing: Our officiant, our 2 witnesses, and us. However, we didn't have to sign our marriage statement from the church.

It was just a legal sheet of white computer paper. That got sent back into the government, and now I am waiting to receive our marriage certificate, which looks more like the license in your photo.

Nothing else really special about our license. We did have to swear we weren't related within I believe 3 generations though.

  • California

I had to list my maiden name, and then there was a section to write in your new married name that you decided on.

Had to be signed by gov official (at county clerk's office when we filled the application), officiant, and one witness is required (we had two, our best man and maid of honor)

It looks not as pretty as I hoped... It's actually just the marriage license filled out at the county clerks office signed by everyone, scaled down and printed on "official" paper.  You can order a novelty pretty one for something like $20, but I don't know that I really need it.

  • What state did you marry in? CT

Does your license have both maiden and married names listed? just maiden

Who had to sign you license (besides your officiant and government people)? me and zig

What does it look like (PIP if you want!)? no picture, but its really boring and not pretty at all

Any other special things with your license? we had to put our parents' birth cities (including the cities in Poland that DH's parents were born) on there...which i thought was weird.

Oh, I forgot about that. Yes, we had to list our parents maiden & married names, their birthdates, and places of birth as well as our own.

Does your license have both maiden and married names listed? Listed the maiden name but asked what the new name would be....

Who had to sign you license (besides your officiant and government people)? Two witnesses which they said are usually the MoH and BM, which is what we did.

What does it look like (PIP if you want!)? They're kind of cool, like blue and greenish...I'm too lazy to try and PIP.

Any other special things with your license? I love that we're married and have a license lol!

  • What state did you marry in? Ohio

Does your license have both maiden and married names listed? Just maiden

Who had to sign you license (besides your officiant and government people)?  just our officiant. I mean, we had to sign when we applied for it but we didn't sign anything after the ceremony. Our officiant took care if it all for us.

What does it look like (PIP if you want!)? Here's us right after we got the license. The bottom part is the part that was returned to the state, we have the top part at home

Any other special things with your license? Nothing really special about the license. But when we were applying for it, we found my parents names in the book of marraige records! They are the last ones on the page

  • This is my MOH signing mine from San Antonio (Bexar County) ....

It's really pretty, actually ... it has maiden name only, and the County Clerks sign, our minister signed, and 2 witnesses sign (MOH & BM).  We don't sign.
