Good morning!

I don't have a clue why I'm so chipper this morning (or why I used "chipper") but I am!

What are you up to today? I'm waiting on the window guy to come and replace my windshield so I can head out and see family in the Detroit area today.

Re: Good morning!

  • Good Morning!

Just working today, going to the gym and doing laundry tonight.  And crap, I just realized I forgot to take chicken out of the freezer for dinner.  Looks like we'll be having spaghetti instead.

  • When we want to quickly thaw chicken, we let it sit in a bowl of cool water. If you have room in your fridge, I would put the chicken in the water and let it thaw out today.

Don't use hot water though :)

Hot water is the only way I thaw meat. Hot water in the sink for about 20 minutes. Voila! I never take meat out ahead of time unless I'm marinating.

I think it's okay if you want to quickly thaw it. But if you use hot water and leave it to thaw all day like that, I think it slightly cooks it.

Can you please share some of the chipperness with me?  I could totally use it.  I'm so close to falling asleep at my desk!

Interesting.  I'll have to see what time I get home tonight and how much time I have.

I'm confused. Doesn't hot water cool off quickly? I mean, it's not going to stay hot the entire time the meat is in it. And if you put it in your fridge, it's really going to get cold. I wouldn't leave meat sit out on the counter, water or not, all day. That's asking for food poisoning.

You are probably right...that does make sense. That's how I was taught to do it, but I never thought about it before. Good point :)

  • Good morning.

I am on day six of not drinking any coffee.  Surprisingly, I'm doing great!

  • I have family in the Detroit area, too. But I am not chipper today. Kinda sleepy.

I bow down to you....coffee is my life force. I am nothing without my coffee.

I started having some weird issues with fatigue and my theory was that it was caused by "crashing" (so to speak) after each caffeine high from a cup of coffee.

So, as an experiment, I decided to quit drinking coffee and see if it helped.  And so far it has!  I feel much more clear-headed all day.

I haven't had any physical side effects (like headaches) from caffeine withdrawels, so that's good.  But I'm really missing my morning coffee because it was so routine and comforting -- does that makes sense?  I was in a crummy mood this morning and really wanted a cup of coffee to make myself feel better, but I was good and got tea instead.  It's just not the same though.  Sad

  • This thread prompted me to pour a second cup of coffee.

Hmmm, oddly enough, I'm having that same problem! Around 5 or 6 every evening, I can't stay awake! I just drink more coffee, though.

I can understand about routine. I am OCD and my routines are incredibly important to me. Having coffee is a major part of that routine.

The routine of it is the main reason I drink coffee.  What about trying decaf?

Yeah, I might try decaf.  I kind of forgot decaf coffee exists!  I always wondered what the point of it is -- like why would you drink coffee if it weren't for the caffeine?  Now I understand though!

Try some Grand Rapids Coffee Roasters decaf; we get that and a regular bag at co-op night. We usually mix the two 50/50 and drink that regularly (starting when I was pregnant--straight caff made my heart race too much), and will do plain decaf at night. Their beans are well-roasted and fresh, and flavorful enough to hold their own. Don't get a grocery store preground decaf. :z

Great idea!  I'll order it tomorrow.  Thanks!
