We're taking Jake to have his speech evaluated
He hasn't had any change in his speech in the last 4-5 months and has finally gone from it being borderline to needing to be evaluated. I have to wait to find out the date and time, but it should be within the next couple of weeks. We'll find out then if he qualifies for speech therapy or if he just needs to be "watched" and then evaluated again at a later time if he doesn't have improvement.
Re: We're taking Jake to have his speech evaluated
FWIW, my goddaughter has had speech therapy and it has been great for her!
I did speech therapy from the time I was 5 years old through high school, I spoke with a lisp. It def helped a ton, by the time I entered Kindergarten it was almost gone but I still had to go (Sylvania Schools took care of it, back then they had an in-house therapist) once a week and then after elementary they'd come in junior high and high school like 2-3 times a year just to make sure I still spoke properly.
But I'm sure Jake is going because he isn't talking?? I'm assuming this so correct me if I am wrong. I am worried about Davis, he doesn't talk, he babbles, but no actual words and the pedi told me he needed 12 words by 18 months, well, that appt is coming up in a few weeks and he doesn't even have one word, well he says da-da. I'm stressing about it because I feel like I have failed him, we work every day on simple words and still nothing.
Keep us posted on the outcome I'm sure he will do great!!!!
He talks a little, he has 5 words, he only uses 3 regularly (hi, momma, and dadda) and hasn't had a new word since he was about 12/13 months. He has conversations with us but they are mostly babble. We try to get him to say words when we hand him stuff, which was what was suggested to us before, but that usually ends in screaming.
He goes for his evaluation on September 27. Maybe if we're lucky he'll start talking before then
Davis does the same things, he just babbles, he is great at babble talk. He knows what things are though so I'm not worried there, he just can't say it or won't say it. I spend about an hour each day with objects, showing them to him, saying the word clearly and nothing.
I feel like a lot of moms II talk to with boys have this same issue of delayed speech. Back when Davis had no words at 12 months the pedi said, eh, not worried, he walked early and sometimes with early walkers/movers you see delayed speech. Then at 15 months she wasn't too concerned but said he needed 12 words by 18 months. So now I'm wondering if they will send us to a therapist or wait and see.
Let me know how it goes. I'm very interested.
We were just talking about this exact age and language development in my peds class today. By 2 they should have 200 words!!! I almost dropped my jaw when I read that - it is a LOT.
My teacher is a peds nurse practitioner in Sylvania and said that it can have a lot to do with the Daddy when it comes to boys. She said girls love language and communicating and boys don't love it as much ... they prefer "stuff". So she said look at the Dad - if the Dad talks a lot usually the boys language development is moreso and if the Dad is pretty quiet so is the little boy.
Anyway, I just wanted to share that with you. I hope that the evaluation is stress free and that whatever they/you decide that it goes well!
Our baby girl!!
well I know all kids are different...I swear to you right before she was 2 Abby was saying no words, none. Then something clicked and they started spilling out.
She was great about following directions and knowing exactly what we were saying or talking about and these days the sentences and things she says to me are crazy!!!
Ryan is following in her footsteps, he says next to nothing...If I ask him to repeat mama, dada and papa he will. He only says "hot" on his own in the correct usage. Everything else is just babble, which has increased lately like he is trying to form a sentence but only he knows what he's saying!
Our friends baby said nothing two weeks ago and then something clicked and now she can't stop talking! She was 2 in May.
I saw All's post before this one. If any of you need assistance I can give you the contact info for Timot's place. Just PM me. He schedules all the apts and therapists. They have (IMHO) the BEST therapists in the area. I know I'm bias cause I know all of them
They do kids, adults...you name it.
We have Jake in help me grow, so he is going to be evaluated through their therapist and would then see that therapist. We don't pay for any of it since we're doing it through help me grow. We will probably just do it through there unless we don't care for their therapist. I think it's just a wait and see how it goes thing right now.
hehe they service Help Me Grow!!
I hope that everything works out then.
