girls w/ flat tummies....

What do you do to keep them (or to have gotten them) flat? I used to have great abs but i've let myself go. we just joined a gym (havent gone yet hahaha) but thats the #1 thing i want to work on....so how do ya'll do it?? :)

Re: girls w/ flat tummies....

  • I certainly don't have one any more....but back when I did, it was pilates, pilates, pilates.  When I would do it religiously (every other day), it worked wonders.

  • Well, I don't really have abs at the moment, but I maintain a flat stomach by simply not eating a lot. I eat about 1200 calories per day, all relatively healthy foods.

    1200 calories?  I think I'd pass out from hunger around 2 o'clock if I tried that..lol Pizza
  • Mine is decent right now (its the hips and thighs I'm worried about now lol).  I run 3-4 times a week, which helps because you tend to tighten your abs when you run anyway.  And I usually do about 50 crunches a few times a week.  Sometimes DH and I do "throwdowns"...I lay down, he stands behind my head, I raise my legs and he takes my feet and throws them towards the ground, and I have to prevent them from hitting the ground.  VERY good ab workout.

  • I maintain my flat stomach by....oh wait, I don't have one.  Not sure if I ever will again.

  • I sleep on my stomach... j/K.. I wish I had flat abs... I wish someone told me to keep my body when I had it.. I thought I could eat anything and eventually it caught up with me.  I have never been able to go back to how I looked during my college days and before.
  • ilovescott - I did the same exact thing.......and I feel like I can never get back to the old me.

  • I don't think I ever had a flat tummy.

?1200 calories? Is that with doing exercising too? I think I'd starve myself.?

  • my tummy is not currently flat either, but i'm doing the pilates and it's definitely helping me get there...
  • When I trained 10-15 hours a week as a gymnast, I had a nice 6 pack.... Smile

But we did some pretty good stregthening exercises - V sit ups, leg lifts, the push downs the pp described.  Doing several kinds of situps works well, but you need to do a lot for them to work, at least 150-200 or more in a workout?  Combined with cardio always helps the most.  Pilates is great too.  I like the oblique machine at the gym (where you sit and you pull and it pivotes your body).

I don't really exercise much. I do some weight lifting, but no cardio. If i did, I would eat a little more. But 1200 calories can actually be pretty filling if they're coming from healthy foods. Sometimes I have a hard time even eating that much because I'm just not hungry enough.

  • I watch deal or no deal during spring break week, then I go throw up.  ok, j/k, I don't have anything flat these day!  I did pre-baby, and I just went running a lot, however, I wouldn't say it was flat, it just looked that way in clothes.  it's a lot of work to get it really flat.  My college roommate had great abs, but she did 1000 crunches EVERYDAY!  that's to much work for me.

  • 3 things:

    1. Genetic luck (which helped after the baby)

    2. Watching what I eat/portion control (whatever you eat shows in your stomach, no matter what excercise after a certain age).

    3. Coinciding with #2 - I'm a very anxious person with a very active child.

  • I forgot to add that I was a maniac with crunches from about 16-31. Not sure if that builds up a good base? I don't have a six pack now, just to be clear.

And my tummy isn't my problem area. I'm a thigh fretter.

  • Mine isn't as flat as it used to be- but when it was really flat I did 100 sit ups every night and ate pretty healthy.  I am working on getting it flatter again, but it is hard!!

  • I agree with this also:. I eat about 1200 calories per day, all relatively healthy foods.

When I eat about 1200 cals a day I definitely feel better and the weight comes off easy.  It is hard to stick to that though (at least for me)
