s/o speech evaluations

Alex is talking a lot more now and still adding, but many things I have to interpret for others, even DH.  What is criteria for deciding when to get them evaluated.  He seems to have trouble saying "t' and "s" words.  I think to myself he might grow out of it.  When we are at the pedi he is so quiet so I don't think she has a good understanding of his speech, she just goes by what we say, but we haven't seen her since December.

Re: s/o speech evaluations

  • He very well may.  I just posted this below, but we learned in one of my classes last fall that children still develop speech sounds until they are eight.  I wish I had the list of what sounds develop at each age.  I may have to google this and see if I can find it.

Here's the link my professor used last year:

  • I was given the link to this site by a speech therapist on a different message board I post on. It's pretty interesting and may be helpful to you with Alex. http://mommyspeechtherapy.com/

That's a great site!  It explains things really well.  Part of me wishes I would have known about speech language pathology when I started my undergrad.  I find it really fascinating, but it would be too much to try to tackle that program now.  Not to mention there is a huge market for speech language pathologists, and there isn't much of one for teachers right now.

  • If you were in Toledo I'd tell you to call Timot.  He works for a hearing and speech clinic.  Not to brag but they are the best! And if you told timot you know me he would totally help you out!  :)

I bet you could call around down there and get an eval.  Most (not all) evals are covered by insurance.

Ditto on being a Speech Therapist.  If Timot ends up getting a job at UTMC I would go back to school in a heartbeat at UT and start taking classes for that.  There is a HUGE need.  Timot can't fill the current requests they have!  His company started advertising in Detroit to try and get people to commute to the Monroe area.  (they cover all of NWohio/SE MI).

(Not that I would ever lose my Falcon status...being a rocket has no appeal to me...hehe)
