When are you getting the Internet installed?  Slash how is the new house??  Aside from the carpet, any big projects you have to do?

  • *shrug* we havent called to set it up yet. it's usually my first utility to set up bc i can't live without internet, but we have so many other things to deal with that i haven't missed it. i guess having the FB app on my phone helps to curb the withdrawal feeling?

the new house is good. full of quirks since it's so old (1950). it'll keep us busy for years, that's for sure. the carpet is ripped up, we will need to redo the floors eventually. we found a couple of planks that have been eaten/rotted by termites, so we will have to replace them. for now we just walk over/around them. no sense refinishing the floors until we have the planks replaced.

the bathroom is mint green and will need to be gutted and redone (new toilet, new vanity/pedastool sink/new tub? rip the tile off the walls and floor and replace).

the kitchen is fine, but the appliances are old (the dishwasher is by far the oldest-my guess is 1972, when the original owners updated the kitchen) but work, which is all we care about right now. we'll remodel the kitchen down the road sometime.

the backyard is an upright hill, which is not ideal, but considering what we paid for the house...we decided to compromise. it needs to be weeded and tiered.

the driveway is only wide enough for one car barely. i think we would like to push back the retaining wall and at least make it wider and put a car pad at the bottom for a parking space. that's a big job and chances are...it will never happen. these suburbs are really, really weird and won't let you park on the street from 2am-6am. my parents are baffled and have never heard of such a rule. nor have i. but the IL's township has the same rule. so we're still stuck juggling cars in the driveway...which was one thing i had really wanted to not have anymore. but again, the price of the house caused many compromises for us.

all of those projects are pricey and we do not at all have the funds for it. so fresh paint everywhere is about as good as it gets for now! i've never painted in my life, so it's a disaster waiting to happen! HOORAY!!! ha!

how's that for a WOT?! woops!!!!!

  • Sounds like the house has character!  You could just install some shag carpeting and call it a theme... lol.

  • i did think about talking like austin powers for a few days while the carpet was still in there! they redid the house in 1972 but not since then. ha!
  • Is it disgusting that I'm reading about all the work you have to do and am jealous? I DREAM of buying a fixer upper and spending years making it ours. Good luck! :)

I dream of someday buying a home where all I have to do to fix it up is move my clothes into the closet, haha.

I fully plan on being pregnant the next time we move just so I can point and give directions. As well as pick out paint samples.

haha this is the type of house we bought! We've done some small projects, but the previous owners staged it before we bought it, so it was all new paint. We even got a dining room table and chairs in the deal! lol. I want my next house to be a 1920's craftsman though, so lots of fix-its. I looooove old houses.
