calling all web designers
I am starting to take on more freelance work as a webdesigner and I am wondering what I should charge for my rate. I honestly have no idea. The websites are constructed I just have to update them and reorganize them and make sure they are optimized. Let me know if you have any experience with this.
Thanks!
Re: calling all web designers
It depends on where you live.
Earlier this year, I lived haflway across the country in a medium-sized town. They wouldn't even consider paying what I charge clients where I live now, in a much bigger city.
Take a look at your city. The bigger the urban area, the more you can charge, typically.
And it depends on your experience and knowledge. The guy who's been designing sites and can personalize a CMS can charge a heck of a lot more than the guy who uses an old copy of Dreamweaver.
It's tricky. You don't want to undercharge and not value yourself and your work. But if you overcharge ... well, you'll know right away.
