Recommend your carpet cleaner!

I need to clean the carpets in my house.  I figured it would be cheaper to buy a really good one than to hire someone to do it for me.  I need to clean a living room, dining room, family room, staircase, hallway and 4 bedrooms.  What do you think?

Re: Recommend your carpet cleaner!

  • Yikes that's a lot of carpet! Are you sure it's going to be cheaper to do it yourself rather than hiring somebody? Especially if you consider how much longer it will take for you to clean them rather than a professional.

A professional company will be in and out in a few hours... including moving the furniture around to clean under it. The homeowner machines are very time consuming, especially if you are thorough. Thorough means going over the carpet once with the cleaning solution and then again with just water to make sure no solution is left behind (leftover solution can wreck your carpet).

Just a thought. I'd never try to clean that much carpet (well, I'd never clean carpet at all but...) since I'd likely be at it for at least a week.

  • To be honest, I did not even think about how long it will take.  This is a job for a professional or my DH.  I don't do stuff like that around my house (just being honest), especially since I am pregnant and have a two year old at home.  Maybe I will suck it up and hire somebody.  Thanks!

  • I didn't even notice your tickers. I'd lean toward hiring someone. On the household cleaners you have to empty the water tanks fairly often and re-fill with fresh water... and those tanks are heavy. And you usually have to stay off the carpet until they're completely dry which can take forever.

    Good luck!
