I need new clothes for work but I feel like I'm in this weird in-between phase where everything looks too young or too old on me. Layer on top of that the fact that I'm short (5'2") so things tend to also not be proportioned correctly for me...sometimes even when they are designed as petite. I mean seriously one time I bought capri pants designed for regular people and they were still too long to be regular pants on me! Talk about depressing. I'll also admit that I'm pretty cheap - I love the clearance racks in stores and it's the first place I'll hit so while I do love some stores I can't bring myself to spend 50+ for a top or pants.
So where's your favorite clothing store for work stuff?

Re: Your Favorite Place to Shop for Work?
I'm cheap, too, and I'm 5'4. I usually go to Meijer, TJ Maxx, Burlington Coat Factory... occasionally a Dilliard's or JC Penney or Kohl's when they have sales. I have to keep an eye on pants that they aren't super long, but most of my pants drag on the ground a little bit, I just don't care that much. Do you sew? It might be worth learning, so you can hem pants, if that bothers you.
The clearance racks at Macy's, Pennys for basics like pants, sometimes NY&co (but their stuff is cheap quality & doesn't fit the best so I only buy if they have really good sales). I can get by with jeans or shorts so I don't usually buy dressy/expensive clothes. Talbots is starting to have a younger look & I'd like to get a few pieces there when I'm done loosing weight. I'm not going to buy something that expensive unless my weight is stable! Gabriel Brothers has Loft/Ann Taylor pieces for good prices, you just have to make sure they're not seconds.
You could ask at Macy's & Dillards-they should tell you which stores have the biggest petites sections, otherwise they'll probably just have grandma clothes!

I'm pretty basic (or maybe most would call boring), but I get my work clothes from The Limited, AnnTaylor Loft, and J. Crew. Most of their stuff is usually over $50, but if you sign up for email notifications, I always buy items at a % off.
I like express - some of their non-outlandish stuff. (A lot of it at the moment looks like a crazy 80's revival.) Plus their pants/jeans seem to fit me really well without being too long. I'm curvy in a nearly-pear shaped kinda way. They're a little pricey but they have good sales from time to time if you pay attention. I love the clothes (and shoes!!!) at Target too.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with short legs. I'm 5'5" but more torso than legs. I cuff a lot of pant legs - not exactly stylish, but practical considering I almost never wear heels, especially not to work.
Then I'd echo everyone else - JC Penney, Kohls, and Old Navy always have awesome clearance prices. I find that Old Navy stuff (besides jeans) isn't always the best quality though. Also, I get away with dressing much more casually for work than most people - jeans, hoodie, and flip-flops are perfectly acceptable most days. Yay!
