Space bags

Anyone used those before?  I'm slightly buzzed and those damn infomercials are getting to me!  I have a million damn blankets because I feel the need to buy one every time I go to a store that sells them... yeah, I'm weird... I admit it.  I love blanket.  I love lamp.

Anyway, if anyone has gotten them, do they actually work?  Does everything really look all normal when you open the space bag?  I could also store a few sleeping bags we have that are a royal pain in my ass everytime I look in the front closet.

I may need to invest in some of these.  I guarantee that the more beer I drink and the more they keep showing that damn infomercial, I'm going to end up really, really needing those things.

You stay classy, San Diego.  I'm Ron Burgandy?

  • I don't know what "Space Bags" are currently showing on American infomercials, but if they are the bags that you put items in and then suck out the air so they get really small...they work really well.  When I went to the South Pacific and lived/travelled in New Zealand, Australia and Fiji for six months, I was only able to bring two big pieces of luggage with me.  Of course, they were packed solid when I went there, and over the the course of the six months I shopped a LOT...so there was not a chance in hell all of my stuff was going to fit in those two bags for my return to Canada.  So I bought the space saver bags and miraculously was able to fit all of my stuff into those bags, albeit just barely.  The bags weighed I think 70 lbs each, I couldn't even lift them...but this was before all the weight limit restrictions so I was able to get it all back at no extra cost to me.  Woot woot!

Now I use them for spare blankets and winter coats.  They're fantastic.

  • But everything still comes out normal looking??  i keep seeing those pillows come out completely flat and not fluffy.

Also, the more I see "space bags", the more I think about Spaceballs and now I really want to watch the movie.  I think I need to put the DVD in.

    BAHAHAHA!!!

But anywhoo... Like Miss J, I also have used them for packing.  Last year when we went to Wyoming at Christmas I had to take several warm sweaters and so I bought a couple to pack.  They do get pretty darn flat and def made room for everything in my suitcase.  That being said, my stuff was a little on the wrinkly side when I took it out but after hanging for a little bit they turned out OK.

I can't speak to pillows and blankets and such though.  Maybe J will have a better outlook on that.

PS... Space Balls kinda buzzed.... that should be fun!

  • I haven't put pillows in them, but the blankets and winter coats both come out fine - but they're pretty sturdy and hard to wrinkle anyway...annnnd I'm not too concerned if my blankets are wrinkly, ya know?

  • Love them!  I bought the giant box of 12 or whatever that you can get at Costco...huge bargain.  We use them to store extra pillows, towels, blankets, etc.  They work really well and everything comes out normal.  Pillows puff back up as soon as you take them out.  You just have to be careful not to gets holes in them, so keep them away from your pets.
