Anyone know about civil service exams?
Does anyone know much about them? I'm really ready to look for a new job, but only want something PT. The problem is that for it to be worthwhile, I need to make some decent money or have benefits. Someone suggested doing a CS exam, but I know nothing about them really. Is it one main exam and then you can apply for a bunch of jobs from that test or is it a bunch of different tests based on the job you want? Has anyone ever taken one? I don't even know what's out there if I take one, but the thought crossed my mind.
Re: Anyone know about civil service exams?
I took one years ago for accounting, and it was definitely subject specific.
It's definitely worth taking because I think they're only offered at certain times, and then you end up on "the list" for any jobs that open up.
When I took the accounting one I practically left in tears because it was so difficult. Another girl that worked for the state in the dept I was interning in said hers was a piece of cake and that they adjust the difficulty based on their hiring needs (i.e. so more people fail/score low?) I find that hard to believe.
I haven't taken one, nor can I answer your questions....have you checked this website out?

I also would imagine if you had any questions, etc...you could contact Rochester Works too.
