Work Situation

I need soem help with a work situtaion, I have been muddling over for this weekend, here goes this is my story..

In June, my boss gave us (me and the other girl in our office) a project to od with NO time limit, so she checked in with us about every 2 weeks, and asked us about progress, I answered every time she asked, and told her honeslty, well in August she asked again and I replied, "im am done with the reserch, but I need a little more direction with what exaclty you want on the spreadsheet ( i had GATHERED a HUGE amount of information), so 2 days later I was done with the portion of the project that was mine,My boss was notified of this. I then asked my co worker if she needed help with hers, I was told no I am ok..

So now fast forward to August 25th, where we are called into my bosses office and aksed what the status of the project, I said again, I am finished with the portion I was given and I have been offering help the rest and have not been given a place to start etc, my coworker then screams across the office, "get that fing smart a## look off your face, before I punch you in the face" to me, we leave the meeting and I get the rest of the project done, since then my life has been a LIVING hell, EVERYTHING has been brought to the attention of boht of us, the littlest mistakes are brought up, including an email that says 'thank you (name of coworker) for replying when she sent an email and this was like a 5 minute span of time..NOTHING has been done aobut the whole f word drama we BOTH got wrote up for the project not being done.. I really fear going to work on Tuesday that I will be fired for some reason.. can someone advise me about this, I live in NM and it is a at will state if that helps, yes I reported the Fword mess to a supervior at work, and I was told, "we dont really have an HR dept and you can NOT say anything bad about (my boss) to the manager".  I need HELP> If you read this far thank you.

Re: Work Situation

  • You need to find out who the supervisor of the person who told you that. You can report the coworker for threatening and she could be fired.

You also need to sit down with your direct supervisor to go over your portion of the project and request that the write up be removed from your file.

  • My supervisor is also the supervisor of the person who said it to me, our DIRECT supervisor and they are best friends they live together..
  • I'm getting confused on reading this.

It sounds to me like the situation happened in your supervisor's boss's office, so not your direct supervisor?  You later talked to your direct supervisor about the F-word incident?

Maybe the F-word was addressed in private?  You wouldn't necessarily be privy to the results.

I would talk to your direct supervisor to address the joint project, and find out what you should have done.  I would also push to remove the write-up.

I've had times where my boss nit-picked me.  It's always blown over after a few days.

Good luck, and revise your resume just in case.

  • No, the entire incident happened in my direct supervisors office.

The Fword and the threat was not and has not been addressed, the co worker later told me.

  • Document everything! Document the discussion and all the conversations you've had about the project. Do you have proof that you were done with your part of the project? That will help prove that you are doing your job if your work comes into question.
  • yes, Ihave the documentation, I have it printed off, I just am not sure how crazy this mess could get.
  • Sounds like a messed up place to work to me. It sounds like the way you were treated and the way the situation was handled was bad all around. I agree with the PP about documenting everything, and even if everything works out and you get to keep your job, I would look for something else if it were me.
  • I am looking for a job, and I have it documented, I gues my question is if I am FIRED will it be really hard for me to collect unemployment?
  • It shouldn't be. Unless your employer tries to keep you from getting it, but if you're documenting everything then you can fight it if you need to.

If your boss lives with the person who physically threatened you and nothing has been done about it, you just need to find a new job.  Forget about trying to salvage this one and just move on.

As for your question about unemployment, if you apply for benefits and say that you were involuntarily terminated they will send you a form asking you for your version of events.  They will then give your former employer a chance to contest your awarding of benefits, which is sometimes held at a hearing you both attend.  Often times when faced with the hassle of proving you shouldn't get benefits, the employer will just drop it.  But still, document everything (at home!  not on your work computer) so you have it, including copies of all your recent reviews/evaluations.

  • I think your boss also has more chance of getting fired for allowing your co-worker to make a physical threat to you and not doing anything about it than you do. If they fire you and you have all the documentation, you may be able to take them to court for wrongful termination. I wouldn't worry to much, but I would keep looking for a better job.
