The wedding ring survey reminded me that I've been wanting to ask you girls about this.
I never had any problems wearing my e-ring. However, ever since we got my wedding bands soldered to it, my finger starts to get red and the skin gets all flaky and dry if I don't take my ring off at night. It doesn't really hurt or anything, just looks terrible.
My mom had the same problem with her wedding ring/e-ring. My dad ended up getting her an anniversary ring that she wears instead, and now she doesn't have any problems.
I'm wondering if I'm allergic to something they use to solder the rings together? Anyone else have any similar problems?? I'm planning on just going in and talking to the jeweler about it, I'm just afraid they're going to say the only thing to do is to have them taken apart. I have 2 wedding bands, so I'm afraid the bands will slide all over the place. Thoughts??
Re: Allergic to ring??
I'm actually glad you suggested that. My e-ring came with a wedding band, so I assumed they were the same metal. However, we did purchase an additional band so that I could have one on each side. Maybe the additional one is a different material?? I will have to check into that. Thanks!
Just another thought, it might just be because the width of the ring is now thicker than just your e-ring alone was. I have a very thin e-ring and wedding band, so it's not an issue for me, but DH's wedding band is 8mm thick. While we were on our honeymoon, his finger under the band got kind of irritated and flaky looking (painless), but eventually turned kind of calloused and white looking (this took several weeks). We figured it was just due to water or sweat getting stuck under the thick band against the skin all day.
But ask your jeweler... they should have some ideas.
sometimes theres just an adjustment period to wearing a new ring (mine was blistered for the first few weeks after getting my wedding band on too).
but you should absolutely ask the jeweler what kind of solder he uses. if its steel or something like that, it wont hurt you. but if it has any nickle in it, ALOT of people are allergic to that and he may have to separate them (which could also damage the rings some FYI). my rings slide around a bit (only have 2) but not so much that its aggravating. you justh ave to get used to it.
