how often do you clean your fridge?

Just curious how often you all clean your fridge -- as in take all of the drawers and shelves out and wash them, etc.  I think I do it about twice a year.

Re: how often do you clean your fridge?

  • Completely and thoroughly clean it out once a month, but I do a spot clean/throw away old food once a week.

  • A whole wipe down of the fridge?  Maybe once a year.

But....when I have a major grocery store run (not a gallon of milk and a package of chicken breasts), I'll use the time I am putting the stuff in to throw old food out, wipe down the shelves, etc.  That's about once a week.

  • Usually few times a year - when it's needed.
  • I wipe down all the shelves whenever we go grocery shopping (every one to two weeks).  I also wash out the drawers as well.
  • I pull out drawers to wash them as needed. If a shelf catches my eye then I'll clear that shelf and wash it.

Pull everything out and scrub from top to bottom? Never. It's too much mess and bother. Things stay cleaner if I just do one here and one there.

  • I do it about every 2-3 months but more often if something spills or explodes.  Every time I do a grocery run, I pull out all the old food from the fridge so I have room for the new items I buy.  It works for us because we don't eat at home much because it's just the two of us.  If we had a bigger family or ate at home more often, we would probably need to clean the fridge monthly.
  • Every other week or so.
  • We clean ours about once a month,

Here's a blog post I did about organizing our fridge, I also talk a bit about cleaning it. Hope it helps :)

  • Wow, what variance!

Wipe up spills as I see them, toss out old stuff whenever needed but only really wash the drawers, etc about 2/year.

And my fridge looks way cleaner than most people I know.
  • Whenever I am putting away groceries (once a week or every other week) I move things around and throw out everything that is old. Then before I put stuff away I wipe out any spills, messes, or crumbs. I also wipe down the outside whenever I wipe down my kitchen cupboards (which is pretty often because they are white and get dirty so fast!) I pretty much just clean it as needed then I never have to do a deep clean. My freezer on the other hand I only clean out maybe once every month or two.

My mom used to love it when I lived at home because I am super anal about having a clean fridge and would clean and organize hers all the time. I still occasionally clean it out for her when I go visit lol.
