Hi ladies! I am loving this book. I am into the last section now...I couldn't stop at the end of Part 3! Here's some discussion questions (most stolen from the back of the book):
1. There are many men in Rachel's life - her father Henry, her Uncle Pono, her first lover Nahoa, her would-be lover Jake, and her husband Kenji. What do they have in common? What don't they?
2. Did you, as a reader, regard Leilani as a man or a woman? Did you like the character? Why or why not?
3. The novel tells us a little, but not all, of what Sarah Kalama feels after her accidental betrayal of her sister Rachel. Imagine what kinds of feelings and personal growth she might have gone through in the decades following this incident. Why do you think she hasn't reached out to Rachel?
4. Has your favorite character remained your favorite through this section of the book? If not, who is it now?
We'll read through the end of the book by next Monday, 9/13, and discuss...I hope everyone likes it as much as I do!
Re: Book Club Check In: Moloka'i Part 3 (thru pg 251)
I'm way behind on this section - I'll catch up over the next couple of days and check in then!
(Side note: Rachel gets a lover? Off to read!)
Man. I was so pumped for the book club, but I've had absolutely no free time these days. On top of my day job, I just got a p/t job waiting tables at night to pay off wedding and house downpayment and it's kicking my butt. I think I'm going to have to gracefully bow out of the book club until life slows down (it will some day,,,,right??)
