Nightstands

Dh and I are currently in the market for a new pair of nightstands, a dresser, and a coffee table.  We both recently graduated college, so the furniture we had was just common cheap furniture.  We don't want anything expensive, but we honestly have no clue how much each of these items should cost (if that makes sense).  We;ve been looking around and there is such a wide array, so I really don't even know what and where we should be looking.  Any advice would be very helpful :)

Re: Nightstands

  • I would start by looking at websites and catalogs for stores in your area to get an idea on prices for the styles that you like. Go window shopping to look at the way they're constructed and to get a better idea of what a particular style really looks like.

Once you've gotten that down, start haunting the sales.  Sometimes you can get a better deal if you buy all of the pieces in a package.  Sometimes you can haggle (don't try this at national chains like JCPenney though.  They'll just laugh at you.).  Look into buying the floor sample if it's in good condition.

Sometimes you can also haggle the price down if you offer to pay cash. Today.

DH and I were in the same boat. We're saving up for new living room furniture but didn't have a coffee table or end tables.  We went up to IKEA and got some stuff. They aren't the most amazing pieces of furniture ever, but they hold our lamps just fine until we decide to buy furniture.

  • My DH and I found a coffee table and end tables at Walmart.  They were on clearance, so we got the 3 pieces for $30 and we love them, they're actually pretty well made...I've also found great furniture at estate/yard sales and thrift stores.

  • I definitely recommend overstock.com.

Nice furniture and cheap shipping! GL!

  • Forget all this, try your local Craigslist.  You can really find quite a bit.  There are so many people that buy all new furniture and then have to move.
