That's sort of how I felt about it, too. However, I do laugh now when I see signs advertising VFW wrestling events. I never noticed those before. Who knew!

I guess it was just built up too much in my head. But I don't give a flying fart about some withered old fuckface who doesn't have money for rent but can pay to go tanning and get his hair professionally dyed and go to bars and pay for lapdances. I don't care about his journey from being a self absorbed assbag who is desperately clinging to what shreds of fame he has left. Or that he only tried to reconnect with his daughter because he almost died and a stripper told him to. Yeesh.
You could make the exact same film but have it be about Tonya from the Real World. Just some haggard has-been who deserves no sympathy for the way of life they chose.

I think the "Mickey Rourke is a trainwreck" factor should not be underestimated. A washed up has been playing a washed up has been.
I enjoyed it, but I won't take the time to watch it again.
