Removing smoke/nicotine smell
I recently inherited several items from my mother. Unfortunately my mother was a smoker, and many of the items smell like cigarettes. I am looking for suggestions on how to make them smell better. A few specific things:
- a leather purse
- two paintings (uncertain of paint type -- acrylic or oil is my best guess)
- two porcelain dolls (one with hair)
- any general tips for the other items would be great too
Thanks in advance

Re: Removing smoke/nicotine smell
My aunt is a horrible smoker and I know that when we got a dresser from her we put it in the sun, wiped it down with a vinegar/water mixture and let it air out. Also, to just give it a "smell" I wiped down the dresser with murphy's oil/hot water mix after it aired out to give it a cleaner smell. The paintings you may want to set outside in the garage or something (I wouldn't put them in the sun or wipe them down with anything until I asked an art store or something like that) and let them air out. The leather purse you might be able to wipe down with the vinegar/water mixture. As far as the two dolls, you could MAYBE wipe their faces down with the vinegar/water but i'd be careful with the delicate paint that is used on their faces. I'm not sure about their hair.
We've gotten other things from my aunt and have just basically let them air out because cleaning them was too hard and I didn't want to ruin any of the finishes. GL!
