s/o of my smokey mountains post--- Are we crazy?
Ok so maybe we were celebrating my mom's birthday with too many captains and cokes, BUT this is what we decided! lol....
Start off going to Memphis for 2 days then driving from there to Gatlinburg, 2 days then going to Washington DC for 2 days then driving home stopping at the Baseball Hall of Fame. lol. I think we are crazy. But Kevin and my mom think it's perfectly fine. What do you think? I've never been to DC and have wanted to go for-- forever. But I want to do white water rafting again too! What are your opinions?

Wives Unscripted
I think you're cheating yourself out of quality time in each of those locations.
Drop one of them.
Here's the mileage I estimate:
Chicago to Gatlinburg: 575 mi
Gatlinburg to Wash DC: 488 mi
Wash DC to Cooperstown: 375 mi
Cooperstown to Chicago: 777 mi.
Total driving: ABout 2200 miles. Even if you average 60 miles an hour, that's still 37 hours of driving.
Skip DC and Cooperstown. FLY to DC (easy enough to do from Chicago) sometime and spend at least 3 full days there, if not 4, sometime when you can really appreciate the city.
Save Cooperstown for another trip in the future.
OR: Skip Gatlinburg. Just go to DC. Spend the time there. It's still 1500 mi round trip of driving, but at least you can spend more time in DC. Or, again, just fly.
I'm going to ditto Kathy on this one. It is just too much driving to do. You won't really get to enjoy anything with all that driving. You'll just get somewhere, then feel like you have to pack up again. I just know we did a bit of driving on our HM, and I kinda wish we had just chosen one place and spent the whole time there. It wasn't as relaxing as it could have been.
I would probably do TN, and then do DC at a separate time(when you can fly there, parking would be a b!tch, and in two days you really won't get to do everything you want). And def. don't add Cooperstown in for this trip, that is going WAY out of the way. Make Cooperstown a separate trip. There is still a lot to do in that area, and it would make a nice relaxing separate trip to rent a cabin and relax by the water for a week.

Then again we drove to Yellowstone and back in 8 days and loved every minute of it and never spent more than a couple hours anywhere besides to sleep.
