Is anyone else "shedding"?

This time last year I started losing hair like crazy, but I attributed it to being newly pregnant since it had never happened before.  I lost my hair, like clumps of it, all the way through the fall.

Now it is starting again.  Thankfully I have really thick hair, so I don't really look like I'm going bald or anything.  Does this happen to anyone else?  What can I do to prevent it or stop it?

Re: Is anyone else "shedding"?

  • I actually stopped shedding my hair while pregnant both times.  However after giving birth I went through a 6 month period of time where I lost tons and tons of hair.  I've heard it's normal postpartum.  HTH.
  • I think I started shedding around 4 months postpartum.  It's subsided a lot now 6.5 months post partum.  I think it's just another joy of pregnancy you need to have run it's course.  Sad
  • I am shedding like crazy too!  I just had a baby and someone told me that you lose alot of hair afterwards. I am not sure there is anything we can do to stop it. Good thing I have thick hair too or else I think I might be starting to go bald :)
  • Usually when I shed a lot of hair like that I usually need a good trim. ?For whatever reason when my hair is overdue for a trim I get like that....when my hair gets cut it seems to lessen the shedding.
  • Ditto PP re shedding TONS PP.  It's still going on, though I think it's finally starting to slow.
  • The shedding you're experiencing now is due to no longer being pregnant.  Your hormones are still all out of whack, and it affects your hair.  It'll slow down and stop in time.  I thought I was going to be bald when mine was falling out!
  • While pregnant, I stopped losing hair, now I am kinda back to where I was prepregnancy, but not completely.  My hair is so thick these days I want some more to start falling out!

  • I have always had problems with shedding, pg or not!  I have super thick hair, so I just must have a ton of "extra" hair.  The only thing that has "saved" me is getting it cut short.  I don't notice shedding at all anymore. And it's a lot easier to take care of (strangely enough). Smile
  • hmm..let's just say that I have to clean out my brush 3+ times when I brush my hair. I've always shed hair, but this this bad is def preg and post preg related.
  • Yep! Another joy of pregnancy! I have to constantly clean out the drain in the tub. Sad It's so depressing. I am getting a cut soon though so hopefully that will help.
