Anyone work at Target?

Has anyone ever worked at Target as an ETL? I would love to hear about your experience.

Re: Anyone work at Target?

  • MH worked at Target but just as a sales associate. He really liked them and felt like they were pretty good to their employees. (I, of course, wished that the SA discount was bigger.)

  • I worked at Target while I was in high school. It was an overall good experience. They treat employees well, and the discount was nice. Some of the "team building" activities we did were kind of ridiculous (they arranged games and projects during our occassional training sessions), although I did win some nice Target swag. I still use my Target to-go mug for coffee.

  • My friend worked at Target as a sales associate as well.  She really enjoyed working there and they really seemed to treat their employees well.  I think she would have kept them as a part time job if they would have paid her better.  I know the store she worked for was very flexible with their hours.

  • I did the ETL program my first year out of college. They "place" you in one of a few different positions based on your first few weeks in the program and then you train specifically for that job. Most people are either guest services, hardlines, softlines and a few are team relations (because there's only one of these in each store, while there are a few of the other positions). I was a Team Relations exec for a year and was pretty miserable. I was in charge of all HR issues, forecasting sales, scheduling, discipline, ect. for a store with 75 employees. Since we were cutting the budget, I was also responsible for filling in for other people's jobs when needed. This included coming in nearly every morning at 5am to unload the truck. Let me tell you, my parents were really happy with my unloading boxes with my $200K college degree. I really wouldn't have minded, but I was working 5am - 6pm (or later) 6 days a week. I made $36K a year. Ridiculous. I didn't want to quit so I stuck with it and after a year was offered a regional HR position, however, it would require me to re-locate which I wasn't willing to do. I ended up taking a business consulting job making twice as much money with reasonable hours.
