Today was the first day at school with the kiddos! I have a staggered start since I'm Pre-K, I only get 5 students a day this week, then I get everyone on Monday! I saw all my little ones from last year though, I miss them!
I completely forgot how LITTLE they are when they start!! I have to teach them how to sit on the rug, raise their hands, use the bathroom, line up, walk in the hall, get their lunch-- everything is brand new! Gah! No wonder I blocked out September of last year, I'm exhausted!!
So now I'm finally home, laundry is going, and I'm going to eat a big piece of the homemade chocolate cake I made for yesterday's BBQ!
I know there are other teachers here-- have you started yet? How's it going?
Re: First day of school- check!
Awwww this post made me cry a little. This was exactly me, this time last year. Stupid hubby's stupid work made me move to this stupid town when my contract ended, and there is NO WORK HERE. That's right, I went from a contracted job in an awesome school with awesome kids and awesome parents, to...nothing. And I feel like sh!t because today was the first day of class and allllll of my friends are teachers and they're all over FB saying how great it was to be back, and I sat here today and worked on my scrapbook and watched Hoarders. My only hope is supply teaching this year, but that is such a big friggin step down from having my own class, and I don't even know how in demand I'm going to be for that.
Looks like I'll be living off my sugar-daddy for the time being, hah!
And Megan, sorry to hijack your post with such a depressing topic - I am really happy for you that you are back in the classroom!! And I need to live vicariously through you, so please comment frequently with the hilarious things your kids say. Oh, and I know that the curriculum is probably a lot different in your school from what I taught (although really...how can it be? We would both be starting from absolutely nothing, presumably) so I have tons of cute lesson plans and projects if you want to chat about anything throughout the year!!!
Glad your first day back went good!
JeHawley- I'm sorry! I hope you find something soon
Jehawley, I'm sorry : (
I subbed for a year out of college before I got my contract here-- it's actually kind of nice! You get to know all the kids, all the teachers, no worries about lesson plans or conferences, and when I spot opens up you're the first one they think of! Plus, it gets you out!
and I would LOVE any projects/activities/songs you might have! I'm starting a tumblr (like a blog) where I'll be posting a bunch of the classroom things I do.. we can share : )
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.
If you were in my shoes, you'd fall the first step."
Yay for your first day! It definitely sounds exhausting, but I'm sure each day will get a little easier.
Jehawley, I totally understand how you feel. Different profession, but same situation. It sucks...at least I have something now if not what I want. It's hard to give up something you're good at to sit on the couch all day and feel like you haven't really done anything to make a difference or have a sense of accomplishment for the day.
I'm glad your first day went so well! There's no way I could be a school teacher, but like the girls said before thanks for doing what you do!
Oh how sweet! Congrats on your new classrooms full of kids so eager to learn. I couldn't do it. My girlscouts about kill me and they are older. Although they did start in kindergarten.
Funny things kids say. This weekend there were 2 little boys with their mom outside of hobby lobby and mom wasn't happy. The boys knew they were in trouble and the youngest one as we were walking by looks at his mom and in a very concerned voice pleas "Don't Under Arrest Us Mommy, Pleeeaasse!" It was so cute. Both Bernie & I were rolling all the way to the car.
