Restaurant recs for my husband's birthday

My husband and I just got married over Labor Day weekend and his birthday is 9/21. So I wanted to take him somewhere special as it would kind of be our first date night out since the wedding.

Any ideas on where to take him? He loves pasta or anything all-american. I don't want to take him to the same old places we always go....thanks in advance for the suggestions! Smile

  • Congratulations!

I see you're in St. Paul...have you been to La Grolla on Selby?  They are the best Italian food I have had anywhere, including Italy.  If you go there, be sure to make a reservation several days ahead of time, they really fill up.

  • We really like Zelo and Capital Grille in downtown Minneapolis and Pazzaluna in downtwn St. Paul. I've wanted to try Brasa for a while but haven't been there yet. I've heard it's great.

Brasa is very yum!  I only eat the vegetarian sides, but the fried yucca with cilantro-lime aioli is divine :)  It's not at all romantic though, so if you're looking for an intimate evening, I wouldn't recommend it for that.

For Italian, we recently went to Al Vento (in S Mpls), and the food and service was very nice.  The cannelloni was amazing!

A couple other good "off-the-beaten-path" restaurants in St. Paul: Muffaletas in St. Anthony Park (this is our neighborhood favorite) and 128 Cafe--a tiny little tucked-away place on Cleveland Ave.

  • I definitely second Muffuletta's. It's a great little neighborhood place with some unique foods and classic favorites. It's also a beautiful neighborhood to take a walk around before or after dinner. Congrats on your recent marriage!

  • Red Stone right next to Ridgedale Mall by the Library is very very good!
  • My favorite is Forepaugh's but my husband loves Kincaid's.

  • You got me thinking about Kincaid's! I ended up doing some digging with steakhouse options and took him to Manny's last night.

The bill was steep, but delicious!! will defintely go there again Yes
