Re: Recommend Your Cold Medicine

  • I'm interested in hearing the answers for this as well, but for me whenever I start feeling the tiniest bit of something coming on I reach for the Goldenseal that we always have in the house.  It looks like this and I take the liquid form as shown: http://www.amazon.com/HoneyCombs-Industries-Liquid-Golden-Extract/dp/B0001ITV4M They also have it in capsule form.

Let me forewarn you it really tastes like crap in the liquid form.  You can get it at any vitamin store or GNC usually.  I'd read up on it before you buy it since it is a root extract to make sure it doesn't interact with any other prescriptions you may be taking.

  • I can usually ward off colds with zicam, but when I can't get to that and I actually get a full on cold I like Theraflu warming relief.  Tastes like shiiit but it doesn't make me all goofy and works really well.  They have a day time and night time formula...but the day time makes me sleepier than the night time, go figure.
  • I use sudafed pe during the day, cold or sinus... it dries me out completely, but keeps me focused and breathing.  During the night I knock myself out with nyquil, benedryl in a pinch.

interesting question... I hope your not coming down with something  :)

  • I usually go w/ the good ol' nyquil/dayquil routine....but sometimes I'll through in a Tylenol cold/sinus thing which works wonderfully

  • I seem to get at least two colds a year. It's so annoying. I've tried... everything out there... and what I've found works the best is seriously Dayquil & Nyquil. I feel like they give me enough relief from the symptoms that I can actually really rest and start feeling better quicker. For me the #1 most important thing in helping me get over a cold quickly is getting lots of great rest, #2 is drinking LOTS of water. So that's why Dayquil & Nyquil work for me. I also use a nasal/sinus saline rinse which helps A LOT. If I'm feeling congested or like I'm having post nasal drip then I use it and it helps clear me up really quickly.

    Feel better soon!

  • I've always really loved the Alka Seltzer Cold + Cough liquigels. They worked miracles for me. I was super bummed the last time I had a cold and went to buy some though because they re-formulated it and now it has aspirin in it instead of tylenol. I'm allergic to aspirin so I can't take the Alka Seltzer stuff anymore :(
  • I know it's practically illegal to take anymore thanks to the Meth-heads, but the thing that works best for me is good ol' Sudafed.  And yes, I buy the stuff that is behind the counter where you have to sign stuff with the pharmacist.  I get two bad sinus colds a year, and it's the only thing that works.

I've tried Dayquil (not as effective for me) and Nyquil is the worst!  I'm some kind of freak of nature b/c any med with a night-time, sleepy formula does the exact OPPOSITE for me.  They make me feel drunk, dizzy, and hopped up.  Sleep is the last thing that comes when I takes Nyquil/Tylenol PM.

    Anniversary
  • If it's really bad, and I have to get up and moving, I use dayquil.  If it's not too bad, I drink tea, which makes me feel better.  I'm an insomniac, so Nyquil and benadryl are things I take fairly reguarly anyway.
