linked in... can someone explain?
So my husband is interested in searching for a new job and someone mentioned linked in... can someone explain this site to me and what it is used for/how to use it properly? Thanks!

I'm sure I'm not using it to its full potential, but it's a place to connect with current and/or former colleagues and classmates (thus virtually networking), post your resume so people can see your work experience, join groups specific to your field to get information on current trends and job possibilities, etc.
I get requests from current and former colleagues to join their network about once a week, and I get weekly updates from the groups I've joined (including my alma mater and a group in my field) with discussions and job openings.

It's another networking site, but professional. Your profile has your resume, education, contact info etc. You connect, or make links, with colleagues and friends. Your first connection are all people that you actually know or have worked with. Your 2nd connection are your first connection's friends and so on. They recommend you don't "friend" anyone unless you actually know them, in-case someone else inquires on how you know them or a job reference etc.
I have looked up recruiters at some companies, and if they have "open networker" in their profile, you can friend them to talk about job opportunities.
You can join groups and follow companies, which will give you more exposure to opportunities. There's a recommendation piece to it too, but I haven't used that yet. You can comment on someone's profile if you have had a positive work experience with them.
