I just got home from the gyno to re-up my BCP FINALLY. I've been off of it since Feb when my RX ran out, and when I went for my appt in April, they said my blood pressure was too high, so they wouldn't give me a new RX...
I know that I've told you ladies about all of the tests I've done since then, and I even had a follow up in July.
Today, they said my BP was still too high (140/90), and we talked about other options because I don't trust our commitment to using condoms.
Pretty much, the dr. and I decided that Mirena was my best option, since we still want to wait a couple years to start trying to have kids.
I've always been really freaked out by the idea of it, even though I've thought about how it's probably the best choice. Then, while I was standing and talking to the receptionist about making the appt, and whatnot, I almost passed out.
Literally, I felt like I was going to puke, everything turned really bright, and I was sweating really hard. I couldn't even focua my sight on anything.
I'm pretty sure it was because I'm so freaked out a out the implantation, even though they said they would perscribe me atavan/xanax.
DH and I are going to look over the pamphlet tonight.

I LOVE it! It's not all puppies and rainbows though, I was sooo freaked out the night before I got it implanted, and I went to the doc by myself and then went to class afterwards (not smart, I'd recommend going home, taking more meds and laying on the couch while watching feel good movies lol).
Anyway, implantation hurt, but my doc didn't prepare me for it at all. He claimed it was going to be a small pinch. Yeah, not true. It hurt like a mother trucker (but only for like 1 minute). And it felt like I had cramps for about 2 days afterwards. He did explain to me though, that I have a tilted uterus that he had to straighten into the right position before he could implant the Mirena, so I had added pain that most women don't have. I've heard of local anesthesia for getting it implanted, but my doc didn't do it. They make you lay there for a little while afterwards because when your cervix dilates it can make you light headed and dizzy, which I didn't have a problem with, but since you almost passed out today and have high blood pressure anyway, definitely take their advice and lay there for awhile. They told me that I was ok to have sex the next day, but I was nervous about it, so I think we waited a week. The first few times it felt like it shifted a little during and caused a little cramping the next day, but it wasn't anything awful, and I haven't had any issues with that since then. The whole thing cost me a $25 co-pay and about a half an hour.
Anyway, since April, when I had it implanted, I have not had a period, I have not had cramps, I don't even remember that it's there sometimes. I am the worst person for taking a pill/changing a patch or whatever, so it works great in my life. I pretty much recommend it to everyone who isn't planning on having kids for a few years. I mean, I'll take a day of pain for the reassurance that I'm not gonna 'slip up', and not having periods is an awesome bonus. The savings in tampons and pads for 5 years practically pays for the Mirena lol.
Definitely talk it over with your H, and if at all possible, get him to go with you, if only to drive.

In other news - I did not know that it was bad to be on BCP if you have high blood pressure? I guess I'll find out when I go in November for my annual.

I guess it has the tendency to make BP higher, so it's not good to be on it if your BP is high to begin with.
