Do you plan your dinners or fly by the seat of your pants?

Are your dinners planned for the entire week?

How often do you grocery shop?

  • I don't assign dinners to certain nights, i.e. Monday-chicken, Tuesday-tacos, etc., but I do meal plan. I go shopping about once every 10 days with 5-6 specific meals in mind that I will prepare during that time period.

  • It depends on what I have going on during the weekend. If it's a hectic weekend it usually makes my week hectic because I wont have time to get meals together for everyday. But if it's a slow weekend I'll cook big meals and we will eat on those the whole week.

On hectic weekends I end up going to the grocery store 2 to 3 times a week. But on non hectic weekends I'll do all my shopping on a Sat. and then I won't go at all during the week.

  • If I'm going to make dinner I usually go buy things for it the morning of.  Occasionally I'll buy a meal to make the next day too, but I kind of enjoy going grocery shopping daily.  It gives B and I something to get out of the house and do, and he likes to help me get the things we need on our list.

  • The staples for most of our meals are non-perishable or last a while, so I do most of my grocery shopping once a month.  I do pick up additional stuff like produce and bread as needed in between.  We buy our milk at Braum's, so we go there fairly often and will pick up cheese and salad there as well when we need more.

We have a list of meals on the fridge and I will usually ask H in the morning what sounds good or sometimes we decide at the last minute. I keep a pencil nearby and check them off as we have them or put an X in front if we don't have all of the needed ingredients so we know which meals we have to choose from.

  • Plan. Sometimes I plan certain meals for certain nights because of schedule, but I usually just plan and buy for the week's dinners. Since I typically eat leftovers for lunch, I try to plan for that as well.

We shop weekly at Homeland; once every month or so at Sam's.

    Yeah, uh, this.

Sometimes I'll plan and write down all the ingredients I need from a recipe. Usually though it's a "buy the staples" type deal. Grocery shopping typically occurs once a week, though sometimes less. I wish I could plan better though--it sucks when I realize that a certain dinner would be great to make that night, only to discover I'm missing an ingredient.

  • Are your dinners planned for the entire week? When DH is working OOT or super late I do no planning.  When he's home I try to have an idea of what I'm making for the week....not a set menu or certain meals on certain days though.  Most days I just go with whatever sounds good.
How often do you grocery shop?  Once a month I stock up on everything from chicken breasts to toilet paper.  I make a list that includes toiletries as well as groceries, and I make sure to include ingredients for meals we'll definitely have in the next few weeks as well as staple items.  That way if I have to go to the grocery store during the week it's only for a few things--cereal, bananas, and bread for example.  I HATE grocery shopping during the week!  My favorite time to go is during the summer at around 6 am when it's just me and the cashier--fun times Stick out tongue

    This exactly

  • I plan out meals to some degree, all of the meat in our house is frozen so I have to pull it out to thaw.  I usually know what we are going to have for three days or so in advance.  I go shopping about twice a month but sometimes we have to stop and grab something like fresh produce or milk.

  • I try to plan out meals, but it doesn't always go well. I usually do big grocery shopping at the beginning of the month and go back as needed for milk, bread etc. - I hate dealing with Wal-Mart.

  • Usually plan at least a day before as I have to thaw out meat etc. Never do I plann a whole week b/c that day could come and that dinner sounds like crap. We do big grocery shopping (at the commissary) 2x a month. I may run to the Dollar Store or Winn Dixie 1-2 more times to replenish bread or the likes. I rarely go to Walmart anymore.

  • Are your dinners planned for the entire week? Nope. I am not a big grocery shopper so when I go I just get things that sound good at the time and planning is way out of the question.

How often do you grocery shop? Usually make 1 big trip every other month then buy whatever we need until we go another big trip again.

  • I use to plan out meals for the week. I'm really trying to get back into it, but my taste buds are SO off and I have some weird cravings. Right now, we go to the store once a week at the most.

  • I usually plan out meals, but not for specific days. I just think of 5-6 meals and go grocery shopping about every weekend, sometimes every other weekend.

  • I usually plan the meals for the day if I know when H will be home on time and when he will be late or if I know I will be out later in the afternoon and need a quick meal.  It is pretty flexable though so if I have chicken planned for one night and pasta sounds better we can swtich.

I usually go to the grocery store once a week for a big trip and then usually have to go once more to just get produce and milk.

  • I go shopping every 7-10 days usually. I try and have a few meals planned, and I usually always have extra chicken or hamburger meat on hand in case I need to make a quick, spur of the moment meal.
