Hey Ladies,
My FIL is getting married early next year (March)! I was asked yesterday by his fi to be a bridesmaid (which I was secretly hoping for), and I'm excited. I've never been one before.
This will be my FIL's 3rd marriage
, but her 2nd (her 1st died). I have a feeling that this will work because they've been through a lot together (my H having cancer, her mother passing away, etc.). Plus she's a sweetheart and he is too old (and not as fickle) to be trying to seek greener pastures...
Anywho, FIL and his fi are obviously looking to H & I for planning advice, which has been a little tricky. Their wedding is going to be a lot different than ours was, and while I've done some lurking on the Second Weddings board on TK, I figured at least one of us April nesties were on their 2nd marriage. Any advice on having a non-denom ceremony, an event of less than 40 people, where to find a conservative but reasonably priced dress, wedding colors.... I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!!
Re: I'm going to be a bridesmaid! Requesting some advice...
Is there a restaurant that they both love that they may want to use? That would be much smaller then the typical banquet hall space.
As for the dress lots of department stores have formal dresses and some even have white ones. You may want to look into that. My aunt wore a champagne beaded long dress and matching jacket for her second wedding. There is always Davids Bridal I know they have some more simple dresses that would be appropriate. But I'd look into department stores. http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3012771?origin=category&resultback=3942 or http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/3012279?origin=category&resultback=4284 or http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/3130207?origin=category&resultback=4731 just some ideas from nordstrom.
You may want to check w/ your local board to see if they can recommend a good non denominational person to do the ceremony however if there is another family member or friend they are both close to they may want to look into having that person get ordained (online I hear its easy) so that person can perform the ceremony.
As for colors I think she can use any colors that she likes. Does she have any ideas?
I like the idea of having it in a nice restaurant, that will definitely keep things small and intimate. Is there a family friend who can perform the ceremony or can they get someone ordained just for the occasion? I think that might make it a bit more special for them.
I would also look at department stores for a wedding dress, but some bridal stores have more conservative dresses for an older bride as well that aren't that expensive, so don't overlook those as well.
For colors, it depends on the time of year, but I think they could do anything they want.
Congrats on being a first time bridesmaid, by the way! That sounds like a lot of fun!
Thanks for the tip on looking at department stores for her dress; I didn't really think of that @ all! She's already tried David's Bridal, but didn't really find anything there.
I think they're still trying to pick a restaurant. We recommended a local Alcapulco restaurant that would be perfect (we considered having our reception there back when H & I thought we'd have an intimate wedding), but they want to check out a couple other places first.
H jokingly said he'd become ordained online to do their ceremony, but no one really jumped at that idea. But then he's supposed to be Best Man, so I guess it would have to be someone else. Though I think I'll hop over to our local boards too and see if anyone there has ideas.
Thanks for the tips ladies!
When is the wedding??
I am going to be a BM too in May!
Congrats to your FIL! My dad remarried for the third time in 1999 and they had their ceremony at a small church and their reception was at Maggianos.
Good Luck!
Danielle
Danielle,
The wedding is in March, on the 19th. As for colors, she has been floating around with greens (earthy tones) or blues (navy), though I think just black & white would be nice and pretty easy to coordinate.
