So DH and I are going to a policeman's ball his department is throwing as a fundraiser or the widow and orphans foundation and the invitation says 50's or formal. Well we aren't really into dressing for themes so I was going to just go formal, but now it seems like everyone is going 50's so I am scrambling to make my dress look a little 50's I was thinking of going to try and find a petticoat for under my dress...maybe at a Halloween store...Any other ideas on how to look 50's?? Maybe jewelry or shoes?? I soo need help!
Re: I'm Such A Slacker!
Oh!! 50's is my favorite time period! What does your dress look like?
If you do a necklace thats closer to your neck pearls would be great, but stay away from something on a chain that hangs. Also pear studs would be nice with a pearl bracelet. Stay away from anything to dangly. And add some little white gloves that would help.
I agree a petticoat will also help give you that poof (and therefore tiny waist) Also I would wear a pump rather then a strappy shoe. A slingback or peep toe is fine.
Do you have a picture of the dress you are planning on wearing?
What if you add a ribbon to the waste with a brooch?
Here's the google image search I did: http://www.google.com/images?q=50%27s+dresses&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=2112&bih=943

Oh you can also get some cat eye glasses from the party store!
You can do a wrap or a capelet but if you do a sweater see if you have one with some beaded embelishments.
This is the dress I bought yesterday, I was thinking maybe a black petticoat or even hot pink if I could find it... Also the actual skirt part has more flow you just cant see it in this picture...
This is an upclose on the top...it has sequence, so I'm not sure how 50's that is but oh well, i figure I will try to work it in by using jewlrey that compliments it...
