I need a dress..

that looks like I spent a bundle on it but is only about $100.   I am going to a wedding hosted by my in-laws which means that I am expected to look like I spent a million bucks.  I have seen a couple of dresses that I like but are closer to $200 so if you can think of anywhere to find an inexpensive dress on short notice (2 weeks)  that would be awesome.

Normally I wouldn't care if I spent around $200 but from now until Christmas we have so many added expenses (three birthdays this month, halloween in OCtober, two birthdays in November, 2 in December and Christmas...When DD goes to school I will cry)  Anyways, we had budgeted for clothing for this wedding and then DH's grandfather died, and we had to spend the money on clothes for the funeral and a hotel room.  Anyways vent over.

Re: I need a dress..

  • What size are you?  I have a couple nice dresses I'd be willing to share.  :)

Ditto this! It's time for a purge of my closet, I have alot of formal-ish stuff :)

  • Consignment stores?

Any chance you could dress up something you have with new accessories.  How funeral like was the dress you just bought?  Could it be shortened and add some color with jewelery and nice shoes/purse to make it look like a party dress?

  • Ditto the consignment stores. Especially if you can find a boutique one that carries nice good quality labels. I got a dress that I had saw for $450 in the stores for $95 at the local boutique consignment store. It was a size too big so with alterations it was closer to $135 and it looked brand new!

  • My body has been super weird after the baby,  I am a 16.  I hate it lol.  Anyways, the funeral outfit was a black suit so not good for an evening wedding,  I would love to accept a loan but DH would be weirded out by me borrowing from someone online. Even though I am sure you aren't freaks or in anyways evil.

  • I am in *many* ways evil....but I'd still be happy to send something your way if you don't find anything you like! lol

  • What about checking out bridal shops for bridesmaid type dresses? There are many that don't look too bridesmaid-sy, and you can probably get a sample dress off the rack if they are selling them.

Laura Petites/Boutique usually carries some pretty nice dresses, I'm sure there's one in Ottawa.

I don't think I'm evil, but I'm certainly a freak.  Alas, I don't think my stuff would fit.

You wouldn't have to tell DH where the dress came from... ;)

    Hope you find something though!
