Tile Grout Cleaning

I feel like this has been asked many times before, but alas I did not pay attention.

The grout on our tile floors currently is almost black in some places, but it is supposed to be like a light sand color.   I had bought some cleaner and tried scrubbing it clean when we first moved in but had no luck.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Also, I have seen companies that steam clean your grout for you.  Has anyone done this?  Does it really work?  It appears that it's going to take some work but I really would like clean grout.  :-)  Any help is appreciated!

Re: Tile Grout Cleaning

  • Yes I have seen the tile steam cleaned and it looked amazing after. Just make sure to re- seal it afterwards. Otherwise it will happen again pretty quickly.

  • We had tile grout cleaning on a home we bought.  The original color was the same as yours...light sand.  We used Stanley Steemer.  However, be aware that steam cleaning won't necessarily get the grout to its original color, which was in our case.  We ended up having the grout steam cleaned, colored, and sealed.
