How to clean couch? Dumb question.

We have a tan colored sofa and would like to keep it stain free. Can I treat it with anything? (I don't even know if "treat" is the correct word. I'm thinking scotch guard or something, but I don't know anything about it.) Or what should I use to clean it should something spill on it? I'm a little homemaker-challenged so don't laugh if this is a stupid question.

(FWIW it's this couch.)

I have a similar couch and my step-mom is part owner of a furniture store so thankfully she told me the best way to clean mine. Mainly it's to spot clean but every so often I do the whole couch. Just mix in NON-BLEACH dish washing liquid like Dawn or Joy in warm water and use a washcloth and just rub over the surface, scrubbing a little at trouble spots; then let dry. Careful not to overdo the soap and not to oversoak the fabric.

we just bought slipcovers that were pre-treated with scotch guard and they are awesome! We have spilled things on them and most of the liquid beads up instead of soaking it--no stains yet! I would think scotch guard would be a great option for your couch, too.

Thanks! I will try both of these options. I make H sit on the floor most of the time he has food or drink in his hand because he is way too messy until I figure out some way to protect this couch. He'll be happy to be allowed back on it now Big Smile

We have that couch in blue! Don't you love it? I try to vacuum the couch with the attachment 2x/month because our dog sheds a lot. Then I dab stains with a wash cloth that I dip in a dish soap/warm water mix.
