Ok ladies, I need your opinions. I just got a call from my Dad in California, his mom has been having health problems that have gotten worse over the past year. The bottom line is that we can go visit her in WI now (I live in TX) because she won't be around too much longer. My dilemma is this. I can't afford to go out to WI twice. So I can go visit now while she's alive but if she passes I wouldn't be able to afford to fly back out for a funeral. What do I do? I get a week off work for fall break in October which would be when I go see her. I don't know if I should go or wait....Help!
Re: Decisions.....Help!
I moved to Texas a few years ago for a semester of student teaching. My grandma had ALS at the time, and she was declining quickly. I was able to talk to her, hug her, and say goodbye on the day I left. That was in January, and she died in March. I was unable to come home for the memorial, and be there for my mom, and even though that was a horrible thought, I was ok with it because I had that last moment with my grandma.
That's my answer. Does that help?
100%, no second thoughts, go now. It would mean more to HER, (obviously), it would mean more to YOU to spend that last time with her. The funeral is just for mourning and you can do that in TX. But she's ALIVE NOW, so please don't miss an opportunity to see her again. I only have 1 grandparent left and I would give anything to see my others again.
Definitely go now. The memories of seeing her in her last days alive will stay with you forever.
I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. T&P are with you.
Im with everyone else. Go now.
Hugs!

Agreed with the other ladies. Go.
My mom had a chance to see her mom in India in March '97. She thought it would be ok to wait until June '97 since she would be in India for a wedding and making two trips to the other side of the world in 3 months isn't exactly cheap. Her mom passed away in May '97. My mom told me once it's her biggest regret that she didn't go.
