I have my K-6 certification but have not been able to find a teaching job. I was always good at math and enjoyed teaching it, so decided to go back and get a cross-endorsement in middle school math.
I have been out of high school since 1993, so it's been a long time since I did any math! I just started a precalculus class this week, and was feeling a bit overwhelmed since all the other students are straight out of HS.
Some of the concepts are coming back to me, but I am wondering if I am in too deep. Should I go back a step to Algebra maybe?
Just looking for suggestions, I know none of you can obviously know my exact level or situation. WWYD??
Thanks
Re: math classes ? about going back to school
Do you feel overwhelmed like there's no way you can see yourself keeping up? Do you think that if you had just a little more "refreshers" you'd get back in the grove?
If it's the latter, there's plenty of things you can do online, and test books you can pick up to do some practice.
FI took a calculus course four years after college and struggled because he was lacking a strong foundation in Alegbra. He continued to struggle with the simple Alegbra stuff through calculus III! I would recommend taking a refresher Alegbra course or buying a book to self study before you get in too deep. Plus, at the middle school level you might have to teach Alegbra so it will be important for you to have a good understanding.
