I got my brand new social security card in the mail today, got my license changed last week & filled out the paperwork to have my name changed elsewhere. I can't wait to get all my new credit cards in the mail with my new name on it! Anyone else change their name yet?
Re: I'm officially Mrs. M
my bio - updated with pics!!
Yay! Congrats.
I'm not changing my name but it was so nice to go in to HR and say I want to add my husband on to my insurance, show them the marriage certificate and that was that. Felt so good. I think that is the only thing we needed it for.
My Blog
Congrats! Kind of a strange feeling when you get that card in the mail, isn't it?
You want to know my hilarious name change story? So when I went in to change my name, my original plan was to take my maiden name as a second middle name and then take DH's last name. Well... I guess the government doesn't leave you more than 35 characters to put your name on your SS card with. My whole name would have been 35 letters long, had I gotten it changed how I had wanted. But since you can't have that many characters as your legal name, I ended up having to take away my middle and madien and just put my two initals. The lady said I could still put what I intended anywhere it'll fit, but my driver's liscense and SS card have to say Alex N. W. Last name. Haha, I think it's pretty funny!

I can't yet
1) I don't even have my marriage license back yet
2) We are doing our "official" honeymoon in Oct (leaving 10/9), and there's no way I can get a new SS card and a new passport in that time.
socially, I've changed it, and I keep wondering who "RB Newlastname" is on FB (when I see myself in my home feed) - haha
I didn't get my name changed in time for school, so all the class rosters have my maiden name. I still have to catch myself when I sign attendance sheets or introduce myself. It's definitely weird having a new last name.
I think it felt the most real when DH got our new medical insurance cards. I know it's weird. That and when our new checks came in. I loved having both our names on it!
Do the creep.
I have my new SS Card, but my DMV appt isn't til Oct. :-( Got my new medical card tho through DH's insurance, and have changed my account names on my online banking and other little places til I can get a new DL and do the big stuff.
Can't wait for the checks with both names!
My professional name stays the same, b/c I'm in the actor's union, and all my listings and press is through that name, so why change it?
Legally though, we will be matchy matched!
I'm waiting on the formal name change until we move (fingers crossed). Hopefully, I'll be working again soon, we'll move, and then I'll change name and address at the same time. I plan on going by my last name name at work though.
Funny HM story: I made all the hotel reservations with my brother's help so every time we went to a hotel they called DH by MY last name and I just kept giggling. I kept teasing him that it had a nice ring and he should consider changing his, lol.
