Your first 5k in 20 days?! That's awesome!
You'll let us know how it goes, yes? Do you feel ready for it?
Re: KathyGee
Thanks for noticing! I put the ticker on there more as a reminder for ME than for anyone else! :-)
Do I feel ready for it? Hell no.
At this point, I'm okay at running about 1.5 miles, and then walking the rest. I'd like to be able to be okay at at least running 2 miles, and walking only 1. I hope to try to run 5 times between now and then to continue to build my base. But we'll see! My only caveat is that my participation will be weather-permitting. This morning in NH (where the race is) it was 50 and raining. I am not sure I would have run it if it were this morning
As for letting you know how it goes... yes... if it happens, even if I take an hour to do it. :-(
It's part of my birthday week... my last week of my 60 week diet/fitness journey, and it will be 6 days before turning 40. I'm doing it as a sense of setting a challenge to accomplish before I turn 40.
That's great timing! I had a big weight-loss push for when I hit 30; I gave myself a break and allowed myself to lose it before 31, though, b/c I hadn't done everything I'd hoped!
But here you are -- 7 lbs away from your goal!
I think the day-of adrenaline rush might give you a 1/2 mile running boost. As long as you don't get over-excited and try to keep up with other people in the beginning, if you pace yourself well then you'll probably find yourself running more than you have in the past. It's a thrilling thing. I'm so excited for you!

You could try the Couch to 5K program ...
I'm thinking about doing it now that we can jog with Jacob.
You guys are awesome! Thanks for the support and the encouragement. It means a lot!
I won't make my 30 lb. goal by my 40th, but I am hopeful to get in the 25lb neighborhood. But, heck, anything more than 20 lbs. is just plain awesome, and I'm happy with what i've done and accomplished with dedication and life changes.
As for getting ready for the race (and for anyone else who would be interested in trying something), I've been doing the Couch to 5k program. I'm technically in week 7 (of 9), but it's taken me about twice as long to do. :-)
As far as starting something today and being ready by Thanksgiving, seriously, it's a great program that would help out in that time frame, for sure. Go to coolrunning.com and look for couch to 5k or just google it. Even if you just walk it, you'll feel great!
I really can't believe I've got less than 4 weeks until my 40th, and this 60 week adventure has taken me through so much. For those who might be interested in my blog and have lost track of it: http://kathy3060.blogspot.com/
And thanks!!
