Re: fav restaurant
I can recommend a few in the South End/ Boston:
Gallows: Great gastro pub. Well priced, simple menu. Delicious!
Stella: Modern Italian food, done well in a fun environment.
Sel De La Terre bar menu in the Back Bay. Monday evening, $2.00 sliders, many $5.00 apps. Really good!!!
SO and I go to these three places all the time.
I love Stella for brunch, too. Don't know if the SOWA Open Market is still running, but it's fun to walk over there after a meal.
Chinatown
East Ocean City for great sit-down Chinese food. They specialize in seafood but their salted steamed chicken and other non-seafood dishes are very good too.
Hong Kong Eatery for more casual, comfort food-style Chinese fare.
Hei La Moon for Cantonese dim sum.
'Burbs
Daikanyama in Lexington for sushi. O Ya and Oishii in Boston are good too, but much more pricey.
All Seasons in Malden (yes, Malden!) for pan-Asian.
Fiorella's in Newton/Watertown for home-style Italian. Biagio in Waltham is also great but a little more pricey (but cheaper than Il Capriccio or La Campagna also in Waltham).
Ponzu in Waltham for Asian fusion.
Little India in Waltham.
Restaurant.com often has discounted gift certificates for Elephant Walk (there's one in Waltham and one in Cambridge).
Chung Shin Yuan in Newton/Watertown for Taiwanese-style dim sum.
Can you tell this is one of my favorite topics?
I just went to the Monday Club bar at Upstairs on the Square in Harvard Sq last night for the first time and it was great! It's probably mid-range for Boston restaurants as far as prices go. The atmosphere was really cozy...perfect for fall.
I also really like the Red House in Cambridge for a cozy atmosphere. It's right across the street from Upstairs on the Square and it's a little less expensive.
Rock, I have been wanting to go to Fiorella's for a long time..I am going to have to check it out.
So sad... I used to love Bouchee on Newbury Street, but I just found out that they are closed. They are going to open a new Papa Razzi there... grrrrr...
I love tapas & adore Dali, Tapeo (we had our wedding reception there!), Solea, or Tasca.
Parrish Cafe on Boylston St is amazing--they have gourmet sandwiches created by Boston's top chefs. Clean, casual, comfortable atmosphere.
Kushboo in Lexington Center is a great Indian restaurant. Weird atmosphere, but the food is really good.
Chilli Duck on Boylston St serves yummy Thai food. I love their curries.
If you like dim sum, I like China Pearl in Woburn--the one in Chinatown is kind of gross.
There is a good Ethiopian place in Central Square near the intersection with Prospect St (on Mass Ave, toward Harv Sq). I forget the name, but the food is really delicious.
Nebo has really good pizzas. It's in a weird spot, kind of in between the Garden and the North End.
There are tons of fun, great restaurants!
My hubby & I rock the frock.
