Pre-Natal Vitamins

Now that DH and I are TTC, when should I start taking PNVs?
Should I get a prescription from my doctor or are the ones from Target/CVS/Walmart just as good?
Any side effects you ladies had?  I know my sister complained of constipation while on them.

Re: Pre-Natal Vitamins

  • Yes, you should start taking them now. The store brand is fine, I didn't have any side effects from them. Once I was pregnant they did make me sick.  The dr. did switch me to a script that had a higher level of DHA in them for brain development of the baby and they made me less sick. But it wasn't something that was necessary.

  • I take the target brand and have never had any nausea or anything (and I usually do with vitamins)! I recommend those!
  • Thanks ladies!  I am stopping at Target on my way home from work and was going to pick some up.

  • Definitely start taking now. OTC are fine. If they make you queasy try taking them at night before bed.

This.  I use the Walgreens brand and haven't had any problems.

  • I have always taken PN as my main vitamin. I would say off the shelf ones are just fine because thats what most people use.

  • I looove these gummy ones. Big Smile Also never crossed my mind until my obgyn pointed it out but a lot of them are two a day, not one. She also recommended Expecta to me but I will wait until I am KU for those.

Yup, seriously! I don't mind taking them ever and they never make me feel icky. They are 5 calories a piece and not the cheapest on the shelf but I like them and my Dr gave them the okay.

Vitafusion. I think a lot of people take them when they can't 'stomache' other types.

  • Where do you get those gummy ones?

Arggh, as if I don't have enough of certain issues without Iron or being KU.

They are good though, and I don't care if they have a lil sugar on them.

  • I thought someone told me that the iron in the Target ones may be why I got sort of sick from them.  Could that be possible?

  • Iron is what usually makes you feel queezy.. My Ob/Gyn switched me early on to a prescription with low Iron, called FoBCal (Folic, B, Calcium).. After my 1st trimester I took Expecta..
