TTC is Obnoxious

I'm considering giving up! It's been 17 months and NOTHING! How long did you guys all try for (those of you who were trying!)

Re: TTC is Obnoxious

  • Sometimes, for some people, taking a break is when it happens. How old are you? My OB said to try for 1 year, then if nothing, we'd take a look at a few things. If you are are mid-30s, that drops down to 6 months though, she said. Every doc is different though.

    Have you tried charting? OPKs?

It doesn't really matter how long we tried for...since it won't have any bearing on you, but I do wish you the best of luck and lots of fertility dust!

  • I'm 32. Does that put me mid-30's??? OH GOD, i'm getting old Stick out tongue

I've done it all. I'm seeing a fertility specialist right now which is really obnoxious (i'm at the doctor CONSTANTLY and it really interferes with my work schedule!). I know it'll all be worth it in the end though and I'm usually very positive and upbeat about it!

LOL. Not old at all. I think 35 is the mid-30s my OB was talking about!

GOOD LUCK with the specialist. I hope you get some answers and some ahem, results, soon!!

  • haha, good! I feel so much better now that I'm not mid 30's although it's creeping up on me!
  • I can totally relate. We have been trying for the past 6 months and I am in my late 20's. I just bought a ovulation kit so we will see how that goes.  I haven't told my mom or anything like that because I don't want the extra pressure.  It will happen when it happens.  I wish you all the best as well!

I made the mistake of going on the TTC boards a couple of times and it is just too scientific for me.  DH and I are just trying to have fun with it and hopefully the ovulation kit will help :)

It's funny how in high school they made it seem like you could get pregnant by sitting next to a boy... but it is VERY difficult!  Unfortunately I am the first of my friends to be really trying. My best friend got pregnant on her honeymoon so she can't really relate to the TTC stuff.  If you need someone to talk to, please feel free to message me anytime :)

  • Personally, I found that the advice on the TTGP board on thebump.com was the most helpful.  I know many people don't want to be scientific about it, but if you want to rule out certain possibilities, it might be helpful to track when and how long you ovulate etc, and the TTGP board had a lot of great advice for that.  There is also another board for those working with fertility Drs.  I am guessing those ladies may have more knowledge over there to share.  GL!
